Would cod 12 be a good game without guns?

Of course not. I am not comparing HL2 to CoD since those are very different games.

I just think HL2 did not age well. Graphics and sound is still ok, but gunplay sucks and enemy AI is terribad.

How so? Because it does not have ADS?

ADS is done wrong in most games anyway, it wouldn't even fit in HL.

That's not the reason (e.g. NOLF does not have ADS either), but the crosshair is of constant size and never moves or changes in size. Each weapon has a particular spread and once you get used to it, the gunplay is just boring. The gravity gun fixes this to an extent, so I used it for majority of the game, but still, I had fonder memories of HL2.

I can run for 5 seconds and while I am running, I can shoot anyone with pinpoint accuracy - this is just way too easy to do, especially since the enemies do not take cover at all. Not even CoD (i.e. a brainless shooter) allows you to do this.

Yes it does Laughing

I "played"* BLOPS just like that, the only bits where that's not possible is where they send a legion after you, but other than that you can press the magical ADS button and move with pinpoint accuracy just fine. And some of the guns -SMGs and pistols in particular- you don't need ADS for at all. In fact, with those, you can do a backflip with triple corkscrew down from a ledge and still hit with perfect accuracy from hip-fire.

You mistake HL2 for a "realistic" military shooter. What you're suggesting just does not fit in the game. Or would you like the same in Quake 3? Laughing

* Quotes are on purpose, because BLOPS didn't let you play much. It just put you on rails and from time to time you may have to fire a bullet or two in order not to die. They should've shipped a lightgun with it, would've made it much more fun.

You can't RUN and ADS at the same time in CoD Black Ops. There is a variable crosshair too (I wish more games offered a game mode with no crosshair ala Ranger Hardcore Mode in Metro games).

I don't mistake HL2 for a realistic shooter (it's a videogame, I do not expect any realism). I just remembered HL2 as an all-time great, but since I recently played through it again, my opinion has changed drastically.

like a side note, i'm playing airsoft. i was just curios about this running an aiming stuff, and i tested with my ak47.
ofcourse is not a real "army" test, the recoil is almost nonexistant.

as long as i run in the direction i shoot, my accuracy is ok.
i can run sideway and shot, and as long i will not look in the direction i run, same, accuracy is ok.
i can even jump and fire fine. with non automatic guns is even easier to hit. but not with 10+ kg snipers.

of course, any unseen obstacle in the way, sudden change of direction, lose of equilibrium means that i fire even in opposite direction.

I remember walking with crates, planks and so on, and they always shooted it. And snipers would even shoot any object you even lifted around corner. very cool.

Don't bother, it's just a mediocre game with crap AI and terrible shooting. Play Ghosts instead -- much better!

Geez. I never said that. You're either twisting my words on purpose, or your reading comprehension is very poor. Either way, it's bad for you.

Just because I do not agree with you, I am trolling? Are you kidding me?

I never compared HL2 and Ghosts.

All I said is that IMHO Ghosts is a solid CoD game. And HL2 went down in my book of all time greats after I replayed it again.

I don't think you're trolling because you don't agree with me, I think you're trolling because you call HL2 mediocre and slate the gunplay - which is far tighter and more responsive than any CoD game I've ever played, except perhaps 1+2. I think you're trolling because of the praise you level on Ghosts, which is the dictionary definition of mediocre. I think you're trolling because of the "I didn't have those issues in MY game" claims in Ghosts. I think you're trolling because you slate the AI in HL2 but praise it in Gho... ANY CoD game, where the "AI" consists of running to a box and ducking, popping up periodically in order to shoot you, or spawning behind.

But no, not because you don't agree with me.

I honestly had no issues with CoD Ghosts when it comes to the techical side of the game.

That is more acceptable I guess Very Happy , since I do consider episode 2 to be the best hl2 content.

Episode 1 I found atrocious though. The base game was OK, but suffered from bad AI, too much reliance on self referential glorification of gordon, and bad pacing due to constant "interactive" cutscenes with alyx etc.

But yeah, we all have our opinions, I just can't help defending HL 1's honor occasionally Smile
