I have a caterpillar myself and I think it's a sound ship. It'll be much more versatile and multi-purpose then most other ships. It's also one of the only ships that has a couple of unmanned turret slots. Most of the ships with turrets can only fit manned turrets.

Personally, this just makes me even more worried about how the game is going to perform and look by the time it comes out. The hangar already decimates most people's machines - and it's only going to get "worse" for everyone as development goes on. I just hope they're making a GAME and not a TECH DEMO only applicable to the highest of the highest end PCs.

if the game is set to launch in the end of 2014/ begining in 2015, i presume we have the time to pay a decent price for at least a 780. we will get trough at least 3 more generation of video cards.

Yep, this game caters only to those willing to throw down €500 on a new GPU each year. YaY, awesome, amazing, perfect.

I'll reserve judgement till the next few modules are released, like dogfighting and the social one. The hangar sure doesn't give hope that this will run on my current PC though.

what ?
i swear that lately you understand exactly what you want to understand, and you are as cranky like my wife on pms.
next year, you can probably buy a 780 gtx at half of the price. and with 500$ you would be able to buy something 2x more powerfull vs a current 780gtx.
dont tell me that hangar runs like shit on that 780 gtx. cause is not.
the dogfight will test the current generation video cards, not the hangar. the hangar curently is indeed a tech demo.

I understood exactly what you said and I don't like it, I hate the mentality that everyone should be made of money and be able to "get through 3 generations of video cards" - and the 780 is ridiculously expensive right now, so suggesting that or the next "$500" card to anyone is offensive. In a year, yes, it will drop - but it won't drop as much as you think. It will still be a €300+ card and Star Citizen will, as per CR's own words, continue to push hardware. As for being cranky? I'm always cranky, I'm sick and fucking tired of being cast aside because I don't have the inexhaustible bank account needed to carry on playing games that require insane hardware.

neither do i.
i have an i3, and a 460 gtx curently.
i dont intend yet to change it because there is no point to buy a new one, when i still mostly play dungeon keeper 1 fx and homeworld. with some starcraft ii and xcom between.
probably i will buy the best card for $ i will have at rsi launch. i really hope i will not get disappointed by it, like i was with rebirth :/ hopefully we will get some perspective with the dogfight launch.

Backers won't be entitled to any sort of refund will they, as essentially they've not actually bought anything.... so if the game is released with min specs of say, 8gb RAM, minimum CPU no less than 12 months old, GPU with min 4Gb VRAM and no less than 6 months old... There's nothing we can do...

fuck me.. it screams piss-poor optimization.
Found here
PS Although, some have better fps on practically the same PC...oh well, we'll see.
I've looked through the topic and there are quite a few promising performance wise posts, so maybe it's not that bad as I imagined it to be

No, that's just Very High, which doesn't seem optimised *at all*.
i5-760 @ 4.2, GTX 770, 1080p: mid-40s on very high, locked 60 on high. Literally completely locked, all frames are 16.67ms or less.
I wouldn't expect any optimisation until we get something where it matters, i.e. the dogfighting module.
Edit: him getting that FPS on a 690 is because SLI is broken atm. At least, it's not working on Sabin's system either, despite the fact that there is a profile. That 690 is faster than my 680v2 (aka 770).

That definitely sounds like it's more an optimisation-thing than anything else (to my untrained eye, admittedly).

Aye, most likely - but even without SLi, if I just run with a SINGLE card I get 28-30fps on High, which is definitely not pleasant for a shooter, though to me it's hardly pleasant for most things.

Chris already said several times that the hangarmodule is not optimized at all...
The full game will be avaible in about 12-15 month and the full game will be a game that will eat the "highend hardware" of this time.
To complain about the performance of the hangar module (which is not an alpha-version at all.. ) is really really stupid.

What makes you think it will run any better on today's hardware a YEAR from now? It won't, it will just require even more powerful hardware as they start throwing more detail into the game because, as Chris said today, he wants it that way. He wants the game to keep pushing and to keep requiring the latest tech, to be used as a benchmark. He's not going to care about people running systems with weaker hardware than the "inferior machines" of the PS4 and XB.

Sorry, but IM (mot very) HO, it make no real sense to develop specifically to run on hardware that simply isn't on the majority of your userbase's systems. Sure, make the game engine scale, so on top end systems it looks staggeringly good, but at least keep it very playable on slightly older hardware.
At the end of the day, he IS developing for PC's, and the joy of PC's is we're not stuck with a single fixed hardware spec - I've noticed this trend recently of developers designing a game to use the high end hardware, and the expense of running on lower hardware. It never used to be this way.
Lets be totally honest about this - while uber grafix are wonderful, they're not the most important aspect of gaming. Sure, this AMD MAntle thing sounds interesting, but TBH, I don't know what it means - I'll have to go read up on it. And will nVidia be able to run it?

This game looks absolutely amazing. I backed it back on Kickstarter and since then I have upped my pledge multiple times - spent way more that I'd expect on it so far.
I've got the Retaliator and Hornet (stock version) so far.
Tomorrow, when 350r is on sale, I will melt my Hornet package and get the 350r.
I am unsure whether to keep the Retaliator, or melt it down for the Constellation.

Well, hopefully when it eventually comes out, it'll be in a much better state than X: Afterbirth is after its release.
The problem with all these stretch goals is feature creep and bloat. I'm skeptical about this being the second coming of space games. I want it to be but I just don't think it will be.
We'll see I guess.

In all seriousness though, let's look at what you can do with less:
With €220 you could buy a 6950 two years ago, play two years, then sell it for €80 (maybe even 100) and buy a new one. That's €70 per year, maybe even less.
You could also refresh each year. Would cost you a bit more (maybe €90 a year), but you could play on all high for the last year as well. My brother still uses a 6950 and can play BF4 normally though: many settings high, some medium.
No, you can't play everything all max. Yes, you can play every game on normal graphic fidelity and it won't cost you a fortune. No, Star Citizen will not require you to have a beast machine. They've said this a few times already. But yes, you will need to turn settings down at first, and will only be able to go all max maybe in 2016. If they keep updating graphics maybe never without a €600 card but wth, it'll look great anyways.
