The soundtrack beats everything, including OST from other JRPGs Smile

Its no doubt the story and the soundtrack that makes this game good Wink

The game has it's flaws but it's so memorable...

Getting it for the X360. Very Happy

Picked it up right after I saw it being highly recommended on the Deadly Premonition boards. I know it's way too late, but I might scrape some time out and see if I can actually managed to complete it. The boss fights videos and the intro video just sold it for me. Smile

I was waiting for this topic to be bumped again so i can write what i think about Nier. I played Nier 3-4 months ago, and to me it's one of best games i ever played. i will never forget the characters from Nier. and to me Nier has the best full soundtrack i've heard, when i say full i mean i loved every second of it, there are many games that has great soundtack but i never had a game i like every second of it. The story was so good, i played all 4 endings, and the great thing is that you get new story when you play the game again. Nier is a game that got into my heart and never will get out, i hope Drakengard 3 will have some of the things that made Nier so beautiful to me.

and dont forget this game has 4-5 endings , the thing about those are first you get ending A then a ending save game that makes you get ending B and at the same time you finally understand what the enemies are saying , but you play as a different character now and see the story segments from its point of view

if i could summary the whole game in one word i would say : MATRIX

yes MATRIX like the movie matrix Wink this game is a awesome take on Wachowskis Matrix ... and its the first game that changes its Genres IN GAME , one time it is a 3D RPG then a Text adventure , the a 2D point and click adventure , then a fighting Beat em up then a Isometric RPG then a Action Platformer ... it even is a Farm Vile simulator Laughing

Thanks a lot Hfric. Can you tell me which one is better? I believe Nier Gestalt was for the Western audience and Replicant was for the Japanese (and a PS3 exclusive). How different are they?

There are some differences but they are minor at best, and it's not totally different like Hfric claims.

Quote:
Two versions were released in Japan:

Nier RepliCant is the Japanese PS3 exclusive. You play as Nier, Yonah's brother.

Nier Gestalt is the Japanese Xbox 360 exclusive. You play as Nier, Yonah's father.

In North American, Square-Enix thought the andgroynous Nier from RepliCant wouldn't sell or resonate to the audience so they localized Gestalt for the PS3 here.

In a nutshell, Japan saw different releases tailored to specific demographics (the people who play the games and what the prefer), on each platform...RepliCant and Gestalt on PS3/360 respectively. North America received only Gestalt for both PS3/360.

Other minor changes include slight storyline alterations, the relationship dynamic between Kaine and Nier is different in either version, and the soundtracks for RepliCant and Gestalt feature some unique tracks specific to each version with RepliCant offering a far more ambient and "fantastic" soundtrack...while Gestalt is a bit more upbeat and edgy.

If it's only in Japanese AND with no subs, serves no purpose for me then. Razz

Anyway, thank you all! I'll keep you posted once I start it.

After the initial ending you just replay the second half of the game for other endings. Good decision on their part. It way not be so important to see them all but at least one more ending is a must, do not stop after ending A! Stuff carries over so it won't be too hard. If I recall correctly the only thing that changes for other endings is the final choice but all those have the same second-playthrough story/gameplay. They do have some requirements so it's not a simple choose/load/choose option. And for all things holy back up your save somewhere during the finale or earlier during other playthroughs

This game and especially the music...wow.

I just booted it up to see if it worked or not and boy this dialogue at the beginning just blew me away:

That's Laura Bailey right? Hope this game has more of it. I'm starting it as soon as I'm done with Ass Creed.

Yeah Kaine is so cool! BTW i regret seeing the intro during my gameplay, it contains spoilers, so i suggest skipping the intro next time you boot the game.

Unfortunately, I did. I realised it contained so many scenes, which I knew were spoiling most of the game, but I still continued to watch it for some reason.

Adebisi, what's the SP DLC 'The World of Recycled Vessel' all about?

It's a nice DLC, you play as young Nier from Nier Replicant, there is almost non story in this DLC, it's like an arenas were you fight all kind of enemies and bosses, you get new outfits and new weapons and some rare things that are very hard to find in the main game so you can upgrade your weapons, i played the DLC 3 times to get the rare things, it's very nice but no story or cutscenes Smile

Oh perfect, thank you!

I was unable to locate any DLC online by that name, instead found one titled '15 Nightmares'. Is that the one?

I actually got it from BCG, Din.

From the link that you provided check the quote at the bottom:

Quote:
In the Xbox 360 file browser the DLC is also listed as "15 Nightmares"

It's a 387MB DLC.

As promised, started the game last night and explored the area a bit. Killed a few sheep, goat and a few shades. The OST is so fucking awesome. Combat seems repetitive with zero variation. But the story and voice acting is very engaging. I'm still very early in the game, but would like to know how crucial are the side quests? Are the worth taking on? Any tips while starting up?

Not really, no. I didn't even know about this game, until I stumbled upon it when I was visiting the Deadly Premonition boards. I like playing these under-rated gems, as they have the ability to surprise you, as opposed to some AAA lot, which just disappoint after a lot of expectations. Wink

This game definitely has a lot of surprises in gameplay and story, so stick with it. It's worth it.

Unfortunately I don't really remember how important side quests were... I think they have like followups and such and I remember doing all I could find, but I don't remember if it was actually necessary to get all out of the story and such.

It's been too long since I played this.

No worries Surray. I have a checklist I got from Gamershell FAQ. I'll follow that and make sure, I'm not missing out on anything.

The combat system should have been much more free flowing, instead of just being jittery. I hope they don't have many of those "Fragile Delivery" quests, as the rules for it delivery are absurd. There should have also been a better save system, rather than the letter-box one, which I find to be very limited. Does this game allow fast travel?
