I think piracy is positive, at least for me. Let explain myself with an easy example:

I downloaded (pirated) Borderlands 1 (long time ago), I liked it a lot, never payed a dollar for that game. Being BL1 so good I planned to buy BL2, I downloaded (pirated) BL2 anyway and played for 2h, to test it, now I have a legit copy of BL2 with all DLC.

I bought that game because piracy exists, and that is not the only game I bought for similar reasons. A full game is the best demo ever.

I used to be a knee like you. Then I took an adventurer in the arrow.

Piracy saved me from Aliens colonial Marines, Duke nukem forever, Dungeon Siege 3 and the list goes on. Piracy allowed me to purchase games that deserved money, one great example was the Witcher, I pirated the first, bought the Witcher 2 on PC and snoredom lands 2...

SHOULD HAD PIRATED REBIRTH.... I bought it because I loved X3. Boy did that decisioun screw me over.

Yes. It's really simple for developers: Focus in making a good game, forget about piracy protection.

I think it can help with exposure for smaller releases.

One example is Minecraft. I had never heard of it until I saw it on usenet and tried it. This was when it was still in beta, around 1.2-ish.
3 days later they had about 4 additional sales that would very likely have never occurred without the exposure from the pirate posting.

There are also plenty of games that I originally pirated and then bought later, albeit usually on deep sale discounts from steam.

The more interesting point of this study is that the EU tried to keep this report under the rugs... and the irony that they themselves commissioned it Laughing

Indeed, and they're doing it again! At the moment it looks like everyone wants to copy Netflix and set up their own little streaming service, you end up with 8 subscriptions paying $80+ per month to see your favorite shows/movies. There will be a reckoning soon.

Not like anyone in the industry actually understands how much the market and the buyers changed since the eighties when they came to power in those media corps...

But, hey...everyone dies...eventually.

We all knew that anyway, we did not need a report. Most of us on here fully support decent games and deserving developers.

I also buy games if the isodemo is any good.
In some cases where i'm pretty sure the game will be fun to me, i also keep preordering.
