I have never experienced this, EVER. I know a lot of my friends have spoken about this, but I didn't understand how and what triggers it. Good read.
I was never concerned about the FOV in game either, until Resident Evil 6 came along and boy, the FOV on the console was so low, that I could only see the character and a tiny bit of what was ahead of me. Other than that, never really had any problems with other games.

It also depends on the position of monitor.
Helpful tip: If fov is bothering you and there is no slider, move your monitor more back to lessen the issue. It really helps.

Indeed this is a serious problem, and very often I experience it too when playing shooters with uber-low consolish FOV. Most of the times it is possible to fix everything by using .ini tricks or external programs like widescreen fixer, but there are 'unfixable' games that I simply can't play for more than 10 minutes without feeling nauseated (one of those is Syndicate, not that the game deserves to be played anyway) but still..it's very annoying.
Suffering from chronic cervical/neck pain certainly doesn't help in my case, thought thankfully once the FOV is set to 80+ I instantly feel better and can play without problems. However, I try to avoid very long sessions when it comes to first person shooters, just to be safe.

Now I would be interested in a poll to see how many here are affected. I thought it was a very small number, yet this response...
My condolences!

Yeah I dislike low FOV too. I don't get sick but I sometimes feel little uncomfortable. The part that makes me sick in some games is excessive motion blur (camera motion blur). Its the first thing I disable. Always.

"This plays like shit"? Yes. (eg BioShock Infinite with the default FoV )
Making me sick? Nah.

I'm surprised this many people actually suffer from the same problem.

it's also a relative question. I.e. i don't get literally "motion sick", but too much bobbing and also blur effect. Anything really that tried to emulate, what my brain is already doing on it's own or is just unnatural (we already have blur in our vision, why add another layer ? Bobbing ? If we had this for real, we would throw up all day long. Our brain compensates for movement.)
It bothers me so much, i just as well be sick hehe.

I just wonder how warped the poll result will be, for obviously only those interested in the topic title may vote. But what can we do
Yes, thanks RatKing! Already interesting seeing how those unaffected are currently in the minority
@ Sin317
we could formulate a poll here and let OP append that to the thread?
Maybe generalize a little, vote for the severity of negative impact on you from motion in games.

Our brain surely isnt providing all effects, since the games projection is on a 2D plane. Some effects are insane or stupid, of course. Lens flare for example.
Depth of field on the other hand, I think, is a nice effect and adds depth. Only problem is that the game cant know where you are looking so it cant produce a correct effect. Which is why I like crysis' solution, where it will use heavy depth of field only when you aim down the sight.

No problem, guys.
sabin1981 wrote: | The OP can add a poll to this thread, no? |
That would be preferable since it would require less scrolling and allow casual lurkers to participate.

I was thinking the same. Little repeating myself but I didn't even know about this until people voiced their aspects.

Personally I only got motion sick from playing KOTOR 1, with hardware that allows blur when using power that increases running speed.
It had so serios effect to me that I forever turned off that efffect.
I think what contributed to the issue was that UI on the edges was crisp clesr, which confused my senses (crisp and blury at same time).

I don't suffer from this. I did get my only ever migraine playing AVP2.
I'm ok with poor FOV, I don't like it but I can deal with it. It's only really a problem when switching to/from another game with a very different FOV.

@Breezer_
Aye, that's it for me too - FOV is bad enough but what really sets it off is camera twisting/shaking/etc.

I had it ONCE actually, i was playing ME and was smoking quite a lot of weed that evening.
That was the only moment that i ever felt really sick in my stomach and had to quit.
Tho it could had been the weed, but since i never got it anymore after that i think it was just a combination of both things

yeah i get a degree motion sickness in some games too, earlier this year on bio infinite, had to do higher fov and take breaks because it was getting in the way of the gameplay. It took me two weeks to finish the game.
i also get sick if i'm in a car and not driving, started some of years ago in my twenties, since i don't have a car and my license expired i'm SOL in that aspect. At least i can hack the fov
i usually play @ 30 fps also.. maybe if i get a better gpu and play @ 60 fps it would help things.
