Kotaku
Quote: | As Marius begins his execution sequence, he might first swing his shield at his enemy's head, then stab him in the chest and then pull that sword out. That'll be a Y-X-X combo. You won't trigger it. You won't even dial up that combo. You're really just reacting to prompts. The bad way of doing that is to wait and wonder whether Marius' enemy will suddenly be highlighted blue or yellow and then react to that. The better way to do this is to appreciate the graphics and actually watch Marius' movements. If he is about to use his sword hand, be ready to press X. If he is about to use any other part of his body to attack, use Y. This might not seem like a big difference, but it is. It feels special, because because the tells that the player is reading aren't those of his enemy's but those of the exceptionally well-rendered main character. |
"Okay"
So it *is* a QTE fest, the prompts are just a little more subtle and because you don't HAVE to press them (because the game plays itself) and they come very late in the animation, you can watch the movement instead. SO INNOVATE
So, here's some other journos:
- IGN: 6.8 @ http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/11/21/ryse-son-of-rome-review
- Gamespot: 4 @ http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/ryse-son-of-rome-review/1900-6415571/
- Polygon: 6 @ http://www.polygon.com/2013/11/21/5128888/ryse-son-of-rome-xbox-one-review
I could go on, but you can see where it's headed. Even IGN only gives it a 6.8, that says enough. Means that in my book it's worth a 3.5 at most
Again, pretty graphics do not make a shit game worth playing. The game is exactly the QTE fest it seemed to be from all the videos and it's every bit as boring as it seemed. I'm sure some people will still hail it like it's the holy grail of all console games though
Knack is getting similar scores, but that doesn't have the amazomg graphics. I'll take that one instead

you would write the same about every other gamesite if the particular review was somewhat positive.

@headshot
Damn... not gonna lie that white xbox looks a lot more attractive to me than the black one launching tomorrow.
And those Ryse reviews, it was expected. They made a pretty game that was meh to show off "dat nextgen"

Really?
even though Knack really isn't my type of game I think I would more fun or say "get less bored" with a game like Knack
I can see ryse being bargain bin before xmas, nothing would inspire me to purchase this game even at a super low price whereas I can see knack being a free PS+ download in a couple of months I would download & give it a playthrough

No no rgb, you got that wrong. It's a lack of experience. And don't forget The Cloud®©™. The PS4 has no cloud at all and experience will not allow developers to squeeze more out of it.

it has been proven that ps4 is already maxed out on launch, hence the games can never look better, while boner has the infinite potential of the cloud and will deliver 1440k@120 fps in 2 years.

at least Ryse, Forza and Crimson Dragon are enhanced® with microtransactions
for a hefty sum skip all the tedium and in front of your Xb0ner friends pretend that you have achieved everything

DR and Ryse don't hit 30 either though
And KZ looks better than Ryse IMO. Better lighting (note how Ryse, while running on CryEngine3, has surprisingly little light sources, I wonder why... ), not the insane motion-blur-all-the-things-because-it-fixes-framerates and areas bigger than a toilet.

I'm looking at the PS4 and other than Resogun, there no other exclusive lunch game I want to play. Where as looking at the xbone, DR3 and Ryse got me pretty hyped. |
if 15 fps zombie tpp with childish humour and generic as fuck QTE fest get you hyped i`d suggest seeing a doctor |
Talking like someone who had some hands on experience with the games I assume. If not, get your facts straight. From all the hands on videos I've seen, none of those titles run at 15fps. |
i`m sorry, my mistake:
The statement from the team is that a locked 30fps is targeted here, but in the build we saw there's a huge gap to be bridged in this regard; drops to 20fps are consistent and sustained when outdoors, with 16fps being our record low during some of the biggest explosions.
appears it was 16, no 15, sorry again
seriously, for a price of xbone + 1-2 games you could build yourself quite nice pc rig + get new batman/splinter/assassin for free with nvidia, or bf4 with ati, and "yarr" everything else for zero amount of moneyz

I really wonder how people compare prices PC vs XBOX and now ps4.
They compare it like: PC 700+$, XBOX 500$ PS4 400$
When they should do it like this: PC 700+$, XBOX 500$ + 6 years of GOLD 360$ = 860$, PS4 400$ + 6 years of PSN+ 300$ = 700$....
I know that PSN+ gives you free games, but Steam gives you great sales, and overall PC's lesser prices.
So even getting 900$ priced PC is comparable to getting next gen console. And it's today. Year or two later when consoles will really be going to be deprecated, that gap will be huge.

i don't understand your logic at all. PC hardware depreciates much much quicker than consoles. you can spin it any way you like but PC gaming will always be more expensive. PS4 400$ + 6 years of PSN+ 300$ = 700$.... oh no! you know how much i spent on PC hardware last 6-8 years? probably 5 times that amount, and i never even had most powerful PCs, just faster than average...
and then you forget most important fact, there are many amazing consoles exclusives that will never come to PC. you do know many people who buy consoles already have gaming rigs? we buy consoles because we love GAMES, not because we love sony or MS or whatever.

Not sure if this is common knowledge, but i have just received my xbox one and the instructions state i have to connect it to the internet for initial set up and the console will be unusable untill this is done, i can then disconnect but the first time set up update is mandatory to make the console work.
