I have Chrome open all the time, adblock installed too, and didn't have a single issue with AC4 in the hour, hour and a half, that I played Confused

edit2: other things that help

1) open nvidia control panel -> manage 3d settings -> power management mode - prefer max performance

2) KeyPath : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers
KeyValue : TdrDelay
ValueType : REG_DWORD
ValueData : Number of seconds to delay. 2 seconds is the default value.

create this dword or qword(64bit os) and set value to 8

It goes down too. This time it's not in the cities, but in the jungles, of which there are many. Ubifail once again.

Well the cities so far have been fairly small, well crafted though but not very big.
(Though yeah the oh so advanced next-gen vegetation movement probably causes that jungle performance problem this time, heh well it's probably something else.)

EDIT: I do like that you can hide in vegetation though, it makes things a bit too easy but it's a nice feature instead of finding the nearest convenient haystack.
(Which is usually placed near the convenient tower although you can jump into the water now unlike Altair whom couldn't swim due to his missing finger.)

it's not a browser issue, it's more driver/physX issue, but having Chrome in the background speeds the crashes up

right now with all those changes, I can play around 2-3h non-stop without it crashing on max details, without them it was ~5-15min

why would my brand new installed windows, have malware on.. Confused
and to think I wouldn't notice gpu utilization. AC4 uses max 45% of my GPU

edit:

after the driver crashes, I get artifacts in Chome, so that got me on it

Could also be that the browser is utilizing the GPU for a few things so maybe disabling that will make it stable?
(I see usage of around ~20% when I browse YouTube and it's HTML5 beta, Flash HW acceleration is off however since it's not that stable.)

Because you seem to think that chrome is causing your problems?
If chrome was really the issue here, you wouldn't be the only one (or one of the few) having this issue. I can safely bet that 50% of the users here that played AC4 have chrome, and chrome keeps running in the background anyway these days, so they all got it open, yet none here reported issues because of it.

As for your 45% is because you are either locked down to 30 fps and thus it isn't using it fully, or you are being limited by CPU.
From what i have seen with others, GPU usage runs around 85-90% for most. Still not fully ye, but not in the low numbers that you are reporting.

Cities are fine tbh... performance wise, well, compared to jungles. Very Happy

When it rains and the wind rages, this is where major performance hit comes into play.

It runs lower than that on, say, small islands. But not at 45% gpu load ,at least in my case Laughing

yeah but that's because prolly your titan isn't breaking a sweat over there, and since you can't go above 60 fps... well.. Razz

But my point was towards places where it's struggling to get 60 fps and thus should have maxed out usage.

PS Berserk darts are awesome. Shooting a high profile target with a berserk dart and watching as his henchmen kill the guy what could be more entertaining? Very Happy

Yeah the blowgun is pretty fun, just recently shot a howler monkey with a sleep dart and watched it fall with a thud to the ground, then I skinned it alive. Razz
(I didn't expect it to work on animals but it does and you don't even get warned for shooting domestic animals as long as it's just the sleep darts, shooting that turtle with a berserk that didn't do anything special unfortunately, was hoping for something spectacular.)

EDIT: Oh and yeah, accidental mustache. Razz
