Not sure if that's enough when it comes to the Mage, but it's a start. Now make the bloody Priest learn his fucking place! Please?!

mages are not the issue. i could beat them just fine when i played a shaman from a friend account.
the basic crap deck of shaman or druid is the issue. that shaman i played had a lot of crafted/good cards from packs. and probably the other classes to.

fired up the game and.... wtf
this thread should be name Magic the Gathering : Hearthstone Heroes of warcraft...
it is basically the same game as duels of planeswalkers. Ofc it has own decks and so forth, but the core is the same so dunno why everyone is so fuzzed about this emm junior brother of MTG. Because of arena? Lol it's a shame blizzard took someone's game and made it look like it is something new and engrossing , but to me.... it is MTG with different card deck. |
I don't think that's fair. If you say Hearthstone is "basically" the same as MTG, then every bloody card game is basically the same. But Hearthstone have a stable increase of mana, maximum mana oer turn, no land cards, no graveyard, no blocking, no tapping, only 30 cards, etc. I mean it is different. You could say it is a lot simple (which is true), but it is different.
What is engrossing is that the game is purely digital, you can do stuff you can't or too fiddly in a real card game. Also it is a simple card game anyone can just pick up and play. You don't even have to worry about praying to RNG god to get your desired card, you can craft it.

I find the best way to do is to pick the card that has the most value and maintain a good mana curve. You can try for combos but in general it is to just maintain control of the board as the best you can without throwing away more than half your hand to do it. If you do use too much low cost to do it, you will run out of gas and lose later pretty much guaranteed.
Try to aim to win by having more cards in hand with a powerful minion in the ready. When you see the opponent have only 1-2 cards on hand and little creature if any on the field, that is the time to play your big one with some support.
I know it is very general advice, but it really is the best way to do it because of how unpredictable arena is.
A few rules I follow is:
1.Never try to aggro, whether when building the deck or when playing it, it is too risky.
2. No gimmicks that takes more than 3 cards to pull off. Simple stuff like imp master + knife juggler or demonfire + void walker is fine, but Blood Knight + hand of protection + low cost minions is too unreliable.
3.Avoid having too many minions with special effects. Except silence. Silence is really powerful in arena.
4.Try to build a very balanced deck (so a bit of card everything) with only 1 major combo saved for the end. That way, as long as I can hold control, I win.
5. Drag the game out if you must, as long as you have your game enders in hand, it is best to defeat whatever they throw at you and burn them out first. By then they will be relying on top decking, then you have the greatest advantage to start your play.

Thanks!
I will consider your advice for my next arena deck.
I think my problem is that I tend to go for lower cost stuff too much..
Every time I play some high cost minion it seems too slow or gets killed off by a fireball or assassinate or something and seems wasted, but of course that's not the case and merely a subjective thing.
The issue of running out of cards too quickly in some situations due to too many low cost cards is probably bigger than I had anticipated.

babioraz wrote: | well... you can say that CoD and MoH are the same FPS, but if you put here games like Crysis or Far Cry... it's just very different from CoD. I guess u get the point. If someone would make Chess game with same figures and only different moving possibilities it still would be Chess game played on chess board, chess setting and so on. So MTG and Hearthstone is pretty the same game... land in MTG and mana in Hearthstone, offence/deffense hp equal in both games, no blocking? so what? it's like to say knight moves not 2 forward and one to the left, but five forward and 3 to the left. And there are gazzilions of board games that are different in every way. Well i agree with one point - every game: board, pc, sports and so on.... they all have one goal - to win eventually alone or in team mode
And in the end it doesnt change the fact that Hearthstone is somewhat similar to the previous successor MTG. Ofc blizzard can shape it their way and make it better than MTG ever was, but still it will never be blizzardish game

How can you say Crysis and CoD is different when MTG and Hearthstone is not?
Crysis / Far Cry vs CoD:
Different Setting
Slightly different Guns
and what else?
Okay but 1 is a human with nanosuit the other is a US soldier that move slower, can't jump for shit and die in 2-3 shots. But if we use your chess analogy, that's just tweaking the move speed, the jump height, and the hp value. But it makes those two games different? Then I can say the same with mana vs land.
To compare board games and CCG / is not the same. As long as you have a physical board that you play on, that is a board game. A Card game don't need a board, you just need a surface. Also the scale of two games are completely on a different level. A board game can be anything with a board. a Card game is made of decks of cards. You can only do so many if the game has to do with just cards. With a board, you can do anything.
Also why does Blizzard has to make a much better CCG than MTG? Lots still consider MTG is the best there is. So why does it fall on Blizz's shoulder to top it when there are tons of other popular card games before Hearthstone?

Regarding Arena, i think its best to get a lot of 3/4 mana minions. At least 50% of your deck... the rest spells and whatever you get.

This is the best guide to the arena I've seen thus far:
http://ihearthu.com/vivafringes-guide-to-arena/
Also watch his twitch.tv stream for the hero you're playing in arena, right before you pick the cards. That way you know what cards to draft and how to play them.

I see so many people still asking for keys... why?
Quote: | As of today, we have sent beta invites to everyone who opted in to the Hearthstone closed beta test prior to Monday, December 16.
If you opted in before that date and have not yet received an invite email, check your spam folders or different email tabs to see if you invite may have ended up in an unexpected location.
If you still can't find your Hearthstone beta invite, don't worry!
We're putting together a list of all Battle.net accounts that opted in to the Hearthstone beta test and did not claim their beta key.
These accounts will be flagged for beta access within the first few weeks of January. |
