Tempted to try this again just to see how much of a difference 32GB RAM + a Titan does, even with SSD's, 8GB RAM + GTX680 this game stuttered a lot for me (running on an i7 @ 4.9GHz). I've noticed that some games runs a lot better now with more RAM since they can be loaded completetly into memory (Super Fetch = awesome).

If I wanted to try it again, what exactly would I search for to download now? Surely still not Gothic.3.VCD8CLONE-ST0N3D?
I am a tad confused as I know Prophet has realeased (at least i think it was Prophet) an updated vers.

You just have to get any version of Gothic 3, it doesn't matter which, and install the latest CP on top of it,
The game is technically good enough as it is, it runs good and it looks good for a six year old game. Something in the design is just not right, I can't name it exactly. I'm not being pulled in. I like both Gothic and TES very much, but I never would have imagined I'd rather play a TES game (Skyrim).

The community patch. DRM is removed by the community patch, so you don't have to worry about cracks.

There's also a questpack and content mod which are recommended, but those two messed up my game. THe questpack has German dialogue only, so you'll only have text if you use it.

Thank you
On a side not has anyone tried Drakensang the river of time? I decided to try it again and having a lot of fun with it. Takes a bit of getting used to though, as it's rather clunky.

Drakensang: River of time is a great game, I just never finished it. But thanks to you mentioning it now, I may just do that. I'm in the middle of finishing Memoria, which also plays in the DSA universe, so I will be able to stay in theat universe just a little longer.
@Mister_s: I know what you mean with "Something in the design is just not right". G3 suffers from a number of flaws du to the sheer size of the game, a lot of details and familiarity of the characters has somehow gone. The villagers f.e. are not as memorable as in G2, their routines are not as fleshed out etc. The whole game, while being bigger, also seems "flatter" somehow.
I still finished it and had a great time.
I've said it a lot of times already: I will replay it once the "Community Story Project" is finished. Because grafics wise, this game is still, after all those years, totally playable.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Played and finished both Drakensang games. Liked the second one much better, but both are good games.

@couleur: I doubt the story project will ever get finished, There are barely any valuable news updates and it's moving at a very slow pace it seems.

I personally recommend the Gothic 3 LCTM mod, though I dont know if it exists in english.
It just adds few minor things and has few tweaks here and there, but it fits nicely. The Questpack and Content Mods are nice, though a bit too much for my taste.
Oh and combat/difficulty has become alot better with Alternative K.I. (setting in difficulty settings) included in 1.75. The game becomes a little more difficult in the beginning, but investing in new skills actually makes a difference in gameplay now. I did a playthrough with that one just recently and it was alot better. You really feel how you become stronger in the long run.

latest update pack for the fanpack is out.
Do note this is not the community patch team, just some ruski's.
Quote: | Fixes of the previous version content:
- The hero can take Ben's Shovel again, but it can't be used as a weapon anymore;
- Sorting of inventory category "Miscellaneous" fixed;
- Fixed game crash if NPC says story SVM-comment without opening the dialog window;
- Optimized hero turn to the item he is picking up with alternative camera;
- Now it is possible to drop the torch also if quickloot is off;
- Fixed some interactions with shovel, rake and broom, e.g. the hero now can make twirl attack with these weapon;
- New color tones for game messages slightly changed (for modders).
New content:
- Spell damage parameter added to the spell book and to the scroll's characteristics window;
- When picking up the burning torch the hero takes it into his left hand;
- If the hero's left hand is already occupied by another torch or staff, a burning torch in the inventory is replaced by the burnt one;
- Names of unused veins and bookshelves/lecterns/stone tablets are shown in orange coloring.;
- Protection parameters in the inventory are now displayed in the same order as in the character menu;
- NPCs who smoke/drink/eat may say respectively SVM_GotoSmoke/SVM_GotoDrink/SVM_GotoEat;
- Thieves (NPC containing the word "Dieb" in RoleDescription parameter) may say SVM_WatchTheGuards;
- Implemented also more convenient sorting of inventory categories "Weapons" and "Armor".
- At refusal of interaction with the grindstone due to lack of skill, the hero says "I don't have enough experience..." instead of "No!".
- Sigmor's key opens the Sigmor's chest only;
- Some values has been added to the templates of some "magic" entities for the correct spells damage displaying;
- The template of the torch was changed, adapting it to the possibility of dropping;
- Burnt torch now has its own icon;
+ Some corrections of stringtable and Russian Speech. |

Wondering about finally playing this seriously. A few questions. Does armor work now? In the start they didn't. And what path do you benefit from the most to get most out of your game? Afaik siding with humans fills towns with generic noname characters and im not sure what happens when you side with orcs. After playing the two first it's not really tempting siding with orcs though.
Remember that town after the very first. Montana or something similar, and i sided with the humans. In the end i was fighting alone against a billion orcs and the human aid never came,. WOnder if this is fixed.
