Black Flag is more fun than AC3 was, but that necessarily isn't saying much (except how bad AC3 was). The series needs some fundamental changes, the basic gameplay is just so tired now.

How exactly was AC3 bad? I honestly think the combat is a lot better in AC3, same as freerunning.
Most people just whined that the game took to long to get going, but at the same time say that Haytham was a lot better than Connor (and I agree, but I liked Connor either way). What gives?

AC3 had one of the best twists during middle of the game I have played for...can't remember how long. It was great.
The game itself, not so much.
I was honestly an avid fan of the series til AC3, I can't put my finger on it but something about it just killed it for me.

That's what I feel from what I've played so far of this as well, actually. The AC part is really bad in this one and on top of that I feel like it drags down the entire game, pirate part included. This really should have been a different IP. It feels like they even thought of it themselves, but said fuck it and just simplified the AC formula and slapped all this pirate stuff on it.

but still if they would not force those history lessons geezz
and AC 3 was awful , your a Rambo assassin that can take 60 at once but in cut scenes only two guys hit you ONCE and you go to jail ... i was like fuck that shit... wth

Here we go with the super frustrating optional quests again! Sequence 8 Memory 2 where i have to use the damn fort to destroy ship. Spend 2 fucking hours and every fucking time the ship destroys itself by hitting cliff. Or on super low health the fucking fort hit it 3 times and it still doesn't sink. Its so frustrating this mission i hate it. If there is a way to giv it minus 5 i will do it 5 times. Last time before i rage quit i think it destroyed the ship, but it didn't count. I cannot believe they've put such mission again

Finished AC4 yesterday and Freedom Cry just now. After disappointment that was AC3, I thought AC4 was very well done. It's definitely my favorite AC game so far. Still, gameplay and especially mission variety went downhill later in the game. They should really just dump that tail, eavesdrop types of missions or at least just completely overhaul them. On the other hand at least they added some nice missions, like tailing ship in the swamps was one of the better ones.
But the setting, characters, overall plot was very nice change. It was best from the series imho. And also being able to basically skip the modern day crap was welcome addition too, though I thought they improved in that aspect as well if one chose not to skip it. It was better probably because of absence of previous modern day cast (Desmond and others).
I still need to finish Aveline DLC, but I'll probably wait for it a few weeks as I feel I'm pretty exhausted from Assassin's Creed for the moment.

All of the previous cast is there apart from Desmond and Lucy for obvious reasons. |
Yeha well, they are "there" -- at the stand, but they aren't of much significance, I guess? I don't know though, I haven't done much, basically just the mandatory stuff to get back into animus and few QR codes and 2 or 3 computer hacks.
Thing is I never liked the supernatural stuff in AC games, I always played it for the history stuff only. Also for this reason, I thought
Spoiler: | finding the "Observatory" was out of place. It would be far better if Edward sought some normal treasure, to find out that his search only cost him his friends, wife, etc... which was basically point of the game anyway. There was no reason for Observatory...Except maybe in relation with modern day plot, but well, I don't know, I just didn't like it! |

guys i'm way deep into ACIV, using 3DM crack. My question is: if i download the Freedom's Cry DLC from Reloaded, is there a way to continue using my 3DM saves and still have freedom's cry activated? if positive, what's the procedure?
thanks!

you can still play freedom cry with the 3dm crack, just put it after you install freedom cry.

Having sailed on tall ships, I am really curious how they manage to take the Jackdaw thru this twisty turning swamp.

It doesn't really matter. The thought crossed my mind also, but I don't really crave for authenticity/realism.

So I finally finished this and I kind of loved it, I guess... I don't know, I'm on two minds on this one actually. It was pretty damn great and I for one still love the AC stuff, but they refused to either change a lot gameplay wise and keep it AC or make it a separate IP and that hurt the game. They actually did a pretty good job with integrating the AC stuff into this game that focused more on pirates than AC, mostly by making Edward not really an assassin. It's just the gameplay where it falls apart because of it being an AC game. Anway, one of the best parts of this game for me was actually the Freedom Cry campaign. It was like a separate game only on a much smaller scale and that wasn't a bad thing. That campaign also had a highlight, the soundtrack! Holy shit, it was so good! Something fresh for an AC game on the soundtrack part, quite unique. For me it had some of the best tracks in the entire series to be honest. All that said, I'm really glad Ade got more than just being Edward's quartermaster in the main game. I really liked the character. I think only "James Kidd" I liked more... eh, maybe Edward is pretty close too, they actually made a pretty cool protagonist (and fuck off, Connor was awesome too! ).
So yeah, what I want them to do now is make an entirely separate pirate game so they can have more freedom gameplay wise and not be limited by AC mechanics. I also don't want to see them give up on AC because I like where they went with that (read, listened and saw all the database stuff from all campaigns and damn, there was some interesting stuff there, especially loved the series of recordings concerning Subject "Zero"). So yeah, China / Japan is something we really need to see in the next one. I also hope the next big AC game is finally when they change a lot of stuff around, because they really need to.
Also....

Remember this? Well, I'm pretty damn sure it was an AC prototype in Egypt. You can see the same character in a picture in an email in the present time database between Olivier and Melanie I believe. They were talking about possible places they could visit in the Animus in order to make movies and what not. And there there were some of the locations of Subject 17 (Desmond)'s ancestors, one of them on the maternal line (13th century I believe?) being in Egypt. Further down there's the picture with that guy looking at a pyramid.
Oh yeah, looking forward to playing Liberation now, when before I had no idea how big it is for the AC series. Now I want to because of all the stuff I've read and seen in the database about Aveline / Subject 1. Hmm, wouldn't it be cool if they'd make something with Subject 2? Hehe...
