Obvious choice is the top tier ships when you reach 50. Either dedicate your life and spend a decade to get one through free methods, or buy it and get it for like 20 Dollar.

I was planning on stopping when I reach level 50 since by that time the game seems to center on instances and PvP. Am I mistaken?

No idea. Last time i played this i stopped in a fit of rage when i found out i had to buy the top tier ships, so i didn't really do anything when reaching 50.

You get free respec tokens every 10 (i think it was) levels and more bag&bank space if the sub is active when you level. You also get a permanent credit-increase limit on the account.

The only time I subbed was when I was levelling, everything else I got through playing. Got two characters from 1-50 in a month, so well worth it Smile

My Fed-Sci's current build: http://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/?build=barashcurrentskills_2116 - focus on gravity well to bunch up the npc and the combo of aoe plasma torps from my swarms of scorpion fighters and scatter volley with dual heavies can nuke stuff down. Smile

I'm a bit confused about the Starbase 24 thing. I join one of the groups in the Quick Play tab, but nothing else happens. I was queued for five minutes and gave up. What am I missing? I assume I am waiting for other players to join? I'm a complete PvP noob, so explain it like you'd explain to a moron please.

I've also tired every key to compare a weapon in my inventory to the aft weapon, nothing works :/

I've never queued for SB24, always did it solo or with a buddy to be guaranteed blue/purple gear, and afaik most people do the same.

It's a bit daunting at first, but when you get a handle on the groups and spawn-points (and decent dps), it goes quite fast. It also has plenty of opportunities for 'oh shit!!' moments when pulls go bad Smile

Just logged in to check, when I mouseover something that can fit in both fore and aft weapon-slots it compares both, so maybe it's turned on in Options or something =/

For gear, replaying missions might not be a bad idea. You can easily manage on rewards until level 50, and then you can just replay the ones that gives you stuff you can use.

I once had a full ground squad equipped with blue mark XI TOS phaser pistols from one of the time travel missions. Had to repeat it 5 times, but having my away team zap Jem Hadar soldiers into blue vapor was immensely satisfying. Razz

Wow I get raped at the Starbase 24 mission. The first wave (destroy 50 ships) is quite easy, but then dozens of Battleships spawn and fire from all sides.

For all the new players just a word of advice on your character name is that no name is unique so you do not have to use any special characters in your name to get the name you want unless it is one of the few canon names that is off limits. Your name is tied to your @name so that is why you can have the same name as another player since your @name would be different.

Fucking embarrasing last night.
Took me a 100 hours of playtime to realize that in ground combat, I can use all my crewmembers abilities. That they aren't tied to ship stations
I didn't promote any officer higher than the station 'allowed'

so, my adventure with perfect world continues.

(for those who didn't follow : I had an old cryptic account and wanted to merge/change it into a PW account, only that i already had used the email from that cryptic account for a neverwinter account, hence they told me i'd to chose to delete either characters on either account. Then they changed my cryptic's email to another one and told me to change it to a PW one. Except that didn't work either (because hte cryptic accounts username and my neverwinter account had the same username, i guess). So they told me to make a new, blank, pw account with another email.

So i did.

3 times.

with 3 different email accounts.

and well ... here the story continues :

Day 19 :

So, for the fun and giggle of it, i decided to create 3 !!! new PW accounts. Well over the last 10 days that is. In the hope of 1 going to work. But halas, no. None of those 3 accounts has received the activation email.

Yep, you heard right.

3 different emails.

3 different provider. (yahoo, gmail and my old isp email)

0 activation emails.

And yeah, i did ask to resend them for several days.

Meanwhile i got a response yesterday from the scooch @ perfectworld (really ? REALLY ?

With that being said, all this disgusts me so much, that i've stopped playing STO all together lol. I just can't.

hilarious.. i had basically the same issue, except my PW account was banned..
they shared an email, and I think they had the same username.
but I just said I was "travelling" when my account was banned for being in Korea. They unbanned it merged it up, no problems. I haven't logged into perfect world to see if my character was still there, but they never said anything about deleting any characters. strange.

well at first the problem was, that my cryptic account had the same email as my existing PW/neverwinter account. So merging them would have meant deleting the chars bound to one of them. So i decided against that. Then they offered me to change the email on the cryptic account, which i accepted and they did.

So i tried to do as it says and logged in with my cryptic account, in order to change it to a pw account. Except it wouldn't let me (it doesn't show the option etc. as described).

Probably because the cryptic account shares the same Username/login, than the aforementioned PW account (Sin316).

So they told me to make a new, blank, account. I did.

Never got the activation email. Tried resend several times over the next days. Nothing.

Made another account. With another email provider. Same thing. No activation email.

Made YET ANOTHER account with yet another email provider and again, you guessed it, nothing.

Now they elevated me to lead support and guess what, the moron copy pasted me the message from day 1 from the other guy.

I'm over my initial high I believe, I am getting really bored now Sad I'm only at level 17. Diversity is virtually non-existent in this game, you're basically doing the same thing over and over again in four badly designed settings. I can only lol at the planetary missions.

It was big fun up to this point though. Definitely worth a shot if you like ST. If only this was a proper SP game, it would've been great.
On to NWN now.

Last time they did it they gave away uniforms, shuttles and a few ships. The best ships they gave out were the Yellowstone Runabout and the Nebula. They have already said this give away will not have any repeats from the summer event.

Anyone know of a decent fleet, other than the Reddit one.

Joined Reddit two weeks ago but it's difficult earning Fleet credits with so many members and nothing left to research.

Only managed about 40k, and that's only because I was online when the research was started AND had a ton of white DOFFs.

If anyone is in smaller fleet that's still recruiting, let me know.

Hehe yeah, even before their base was complete it was pretty hard to build credits due to the amount of people online when the projects started. If you're in it for the long haul, I have an alt in a real-life buddy's fleet and can probably get you an invite. No clue how far along they are though so if you've your eyes set on T4/T5 stuff asap his fleet might not be the best bet.. Smile

Just started playing this. I wonder how much am I gonna have to pay or farm to get one of those fancy ships I keep seeing every other place. But it seems enjoyable, it's rare I spend more than two hours when I start playing an MMO, yet I haven't logged out yet.

ALL 'fancy' ships are bought for by either Zen (store currency paid by cash) or Dilithium (rare earned currency - which can also be traded for/bought by Zen)

You really don't NEED to buy these ships, they are pretty much cosmetic with some minor enhancements, but I suppose they look kinda pretty. From what I understand, once you reach the highest level, you can earn a lot of ships too, but I don't know how that works.

You can also get ships via some missions, a nice touch was getting the Enterprise-C (Ambassador Class) ship when completing the relevant mission.

The game start off maybe a touch frustrating due to the horrid lack of ship weapons, but damn if my Galaxy class doesn't kick some serious Reman ass right now Very Happy

I just LONG for more voice acting - the number of 'episodes' are to be honest, stunning. Sure they are padded out with shooty stuff, but I love the storylines, it's very Trek with added combat. And thats just Starfleet - not really tried Romulan or Klingon yet.

Can you ask? I'd join just to mass as much fleet credits as possible before returning to Reddit fleet.

Yeah, I assumed as much. Can't wait to be at least level 20. Also, yeah, I figured as much, although it's really nice the zen items are mostly cosmetic or XP boosts. And the dilithium gives me a heavy Astral Diamonds vibe (from Neverwinter, another title published by PW and done by Cryptic).
