murgo, try to contact Steam support. I'm sure they'll get you unbanned. If you don't get anywhere with them, PM me and I have a personal email from someone at Valve that can help you for sure.

Tell them you don't understand why/what it happened but it's probably that you were gifted a game that was purchased fraudulently, in which case they should ban the dude that gifted you and merely remove the game from your account.

(Or did you mean that you have one of those old accounts that are your email address?)

If he is unsure in his public email he uses for his steam account then may be it is time to make a goddamn private (may be even paid) email account and use it for a few selected services only?

In that case you'll have to deal with support. Got my old account back even though the e-mail was from an old ISP and no longer valid and did not know my Password. Just had to show them a picture of the cd-key of one of the games on there.
In the end there's always a way to get your account back as long as you have some evidence of it being yours. |

well you said the account is three years old, my account is that age (give or take) and I login using a username, not an email address.
Unless you put an email address in the username field I suppose.

I also login with username. And whatever username I have set, I am always logging with the first username I ever had.

You do bring it on yourself sometimes, KC <3 As a serious answer though, if you get locked out of your primary email account and can't access Steam you can just contact support and go through a retrieval process, usually have to provide critical information to prove ownership, such as last purchased game, 4 digits of cc or pp receipts, etc.
