Thanks for clearing that up. I remembered Hall showing a new path-finding system about a year ago. In the September dev blog he indeed stated they wanted to replace the entire system since the Arma2 possibilities were too limited.

The zombies that are currently in are exactly those from the video you watched. They also changed the way they attack to an different kind of animation (like the ones for players when they surrender/wave etc. dunno the technical term) which was also mentioned somewhere, dunno remember where though.

Seriously; Try playing at night. Yesterday I played on a night server with Rasmus in Electro. Damn that was so intense. I'm sure you might get killed more often... But it's really more fun if you accept that drawing the short straw is part of the game.

Alot of news on Reddit today after releasing the newest patch.

- Barns spawn loot again
- They put in new headgear (beret)
- Pistol flashlights
- Mosin M44 compensator (reduces barrel rise)
- Improvised courier bag (sticks, rope, jute sack)
- New town Svetlojarsk (http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus#7.140.020)

They seem to have improved server performance which should lead to more zombies soon.

they've also now split the hive in two
there's "regular" hive (old) and "hardcore" hive with 1st person only and other veteran server settings

also a nice addition that we can now see server time in serverlist without joining

This build is has very big back-end changes, which means that it may take some time for game servers to come up. Please keep an eye on the DayZ twitter for updates. Many of the changes not listed here are significant database cluster changes associated with our datacenter, and involve configuration changes to DayZ servers themselves. We have tried to minimize potential problems, but delays and outages are possible now more than ever. We will be working as fast as we can to get everything back online.

Known Issues
◾Corpse cleanup causes server crash during forced server restart
◾Spray Painting a magazine while on weapon, creates fake (unusable) copy in inventory

◾Niosh mask (respirator) inventory size fixed to 1/1 slot.

This is a game for a lot of role playing (and i do enjoy getting into my survival character, i dont mind the idle time). But i think ill wait for vehicles and base building. Currently it still feels pretty empty.

Well I've just experienced my first death by another human. I came across a dead guy and a zomb standing next to him.Killed the zombie but took damage and started bleeding. Checking the dead guy he was loaded with goodies, guns med kit vest all sorts of stuff.

Then along comes a guy with a shotgun, me dressed in yellow rain coat an axe and a shotgun (no bullets) me... friendly... friendly... nothing so i slowly walk away.... hands up. Bang!!

The fucker. Is this the way it goes in DayZ just kill on sight? unless of course it was his mate and he thought i'd killed him lol.

Some 10 year old killed me with an axe then mocked me as I bled to death.. I've still not found any items other than a backpack.. :\

What am I doing wrong? No food, no clothes, no tools?!

Just don't play yet. The SA has less content than the mod had when it came out. You'll just ruin the game for yourself. Especially since you didn't play the mod.

Not finding anything (without server hopping) is partly due to it's current state too.

Wait till some of us DayZ addicts tell you that it's worth it to jump in.

Went to a little town with my char sporting only a small backpack. Ran around for 30mins. Found nothing in 2 towns (main island and the little southern island).. starved to death.

I just re-spawned, did a little server hoping and found a crowbar! I'm also finding a bunch of other stuff but given that I now have no backpack I can't actually carry it.

Is hunting/gathering in the mod? Are there plans to have it in the game?

sYn you really gotta start playing with us! Smile

But some quick tips:

Use http://dayzdb.com/map !
When you spawn, its usually on the east coast or around a town called "Kamashovo". Run to the nearest town sign (white background) and use dayzdb to establish where you are. Then you look for the nearest well. They are indicated on dayzdb as faucets. Drink up until it says you are full. Then you start running for the nearest major city and try and gather provisions and find a melee weapon. (Anything but axes are pretty crap but axes are really good. You cant use small stuff like wrenches to kill with. They can be used instead of can openers for food).

Then you can maybe find other friendlys or stay solo, find a rifle, take out a dude if you want Very Happy

Dayzdb has a lot of resources for you to understand what drops whre. The hospital drops crucial items that other places wont have(only few military areas will ahve similar loot). The high value loot atm is the rifles and the military areas so stay away from those if you dont wanna engage hostile targets.

I think i'm gonna take a break from this for a while. My character keep getting wiped after i get that red chain symbol and the no message received for x seconds message. I lost my char 4 -5 times during the last week or so. And it seems to happens eveytime i start to get going

I know it happens to many other people too but this is getting more and more frequent for me. My very first run in the game is the one where i actually lasted the longest Razz

Also that new patch has affected my performence. It was running like shit in towns but now it runs even more shittier Laughing

But hey that's the pains and trials of being a tester for an Alpha i guess

Sometimes I get "wiped" and spawn on the shore with new char but right after that I just exit and enter new server. Then I am with my fully geared char where I was last with him. Maybe I am really lucky with this (fingers crossed).

I finally had a good run, found some gear, killed a dude and took his gun (he must have been half asleep or something?!) but eventually got taken out by some folk Sad! I probably would have taken them had I had more than 2 rounds in my shotgun!

I enjoyed it although the day/night cycle is a little irritating. I'll have to play on swapped servers I think as I'll mainly be playing at night and the darkness gets old quick Razz!

One thing this game has over Rust is the atmosphere, I feel tense while playing this, mainly due to the surroundings, sounds and shadows.. Rust just doesn't have that.

Now imagine tons more zombies, homemade weapons, vehicles, bigger servers etc in the future Smile(vehicles at best 5 months out) We are willing to play on a bit laggy servers if ure american we get decent pings there if u ever wanna play we are on nfohump TS. Also I recommend watching twitch.tv/lirik for a funny dayz stream.

Rust looks cool but its much more base oriented and I dont think dayz will ever reach that level cause of the size of the map(eventually more maps/mods will come probably) and how scarce resources will be. And youre right..watch Jarl's vid posted up there. I was playing with him and I was one of the guys that got killed Laughing We have some pretty intense sessions and because of the limited end game there is at the moment, we usually go straight for a gun and then start hunting Very Happy

Syn if you have enough of exploring on your own, join the teamspeak server if you start playing. You could also add a few of us on Steam so that we can team up sometime. The more the merrier! But for now just experience the game. Once you hook up with experienced players it may lose a little of it's charm.
