I also just googled, and it seemed they got added already last summer?
I never ever saw them before in my Origin. Also now i have a "gamerscore" next to my avatar Surprised

Q... what graphics settings do you guys use when playing MP? Low? Custom?

Very curious Smile (for the record I try to go as high as possible, excepting foliage, just so noone else has an unfair advantage)

A mixed bag of settings with low to high, no AA, no SSAO/HBAO, scaled to 120% @ 1080p and fov80.

mmm my PC specs down there vv just ain't giving me satisfaction lol - mostly I get 60fps but it still drops to as low as 40 in some maps and when it's busy.. is this normal for most?

I have a 7970 with core clock at 1180, but I do have a better CPU - a 2500K at 4.3.
Still, drops to 40 are not that uncommon if you are playing on Ultra with 4xMSAA.

I ran some benchmarks in preparation to Mantle, and the results from that basically were:
- 65 FPS on average on most maps
- Depending on the map framerate fluctuates between 55 and 75 90% of the time. In more demanding maps it will spend more time on the lower end of that range (like on Shanghai) and on Zavod, for example, it's closer to 70.
- Min framerate is 40-45, but those instances are rare and short (too many explosions in your face)

That's all 1080p on Ultra, 4xMSAA, Motion Blur and PostAA off, FOV 80.

maybe it's just me, but I'm having a hard time seeing many changes.

You would think the jump between low and ultra would be pretty significant in terms of visuals, but it doesn't seem so...at least to me anyway.

Well I'm playing on Low and still get some FPS drops, but when I look at gameplay videos of people playing on High/Ultra or whatever, game looks much better than it does for me.

That video is from the beta. There is a very distinct difference even between medium and high now.

Am I the only one that gets on no servers anymore?

First: Game disconnected, you were kicked from the game (first time joining)
Second: Game loads, freeze, sound loop
Third: Repeat

Feels like launch all over again... Evil or Very Mad

Well if you get kicked from the game, that's definitely something from the server admins. Reserved slots perhaps?

Only thing I had, but that was before last patch, was the endless join loop. It would just go "Client disconnected" 15 times before it would let me in. Still pretty sure that was just EA's hamster not being fed and thus EA Online failing, not DICE's master servers for BF4 or the game server in question Razz

The foliage setting is broken. Putting it on ultra makes it render at medium or low, while putting it on medium or low makes it render more.

The foliage setting is broken. Putting it on ultra makes it render at medium or low, while putting it on medium or low makes it render more.

Not quite like that. Ultra is Ultra, but if you switch lower from Ultra, it will draw even more objects (more then it's supposed to). And this will only last until the map change or until you restart the game. After that, it will reset to the setting you set it to (if you set it to Low, it will be the real Low).

Basically, the bug you are talking about only works if you actually switch to a lower setting mid-game...

Yeah of course but I wasn't even on the server, plenty of spaces and no country restrictions...


The game worked fine a week ago, suddenly nothing works anymore, quite sucky, gonna try another time, idk when.

I might sound antiquated but why would you need ultra for multiplayer, where the fps is what counts the most (at least thats what i've always lived by, in CS (only the shadows high) and quake mipmapped all over the place)?

sience is a cold-hearted bitch with a 14-inch strap-on

I'd say the biggest changes are the water (barely animated on low) and quality of particles (no sparks/very basic effects on low). Razz Then it's all about the lod and shadows, which are still more than fine if you set them on medium for example. I keep everything on high, AA off (only the post one enabled) and the performance is actually great on my 3 year old rig^^

Have to say, put all settings on low except 2x MSAA and I'm getting FPS of between 120-170 now using Mantle on a 64 player Flood Zone. And seriously, that's still good graphics, I can't see me moving back to high now.

I wonder what setting causes the mass fps drop. I shall have to investigate Razz

game optimization is bullshit. there are certain places in certain maps, if you stand in that place your fps halves, move 1 meter back and fps is back to normal.
