For a brief moment I enjoyed it but then I played a bit more, got to level 8, and I'm already sick of the fact that you're just railroaded through zones in a linear fashion and they aren't even connected to one another physically. It's a pile of shit.
Plus combat is like a worse version of AoC, it looks passable visually but performance is horrible because of Hero Engine.
It feels like someone made a low budget Skyrim clone and someone else added a mp mod to that like the Just Cause 2 mod, there's a ton of people running around but it's all just meaningless. That's the worst part, I don't see how these other idiots running around benefits my experience. It flat out doesn't, so why would I pay monthly to see them?
Lol at this game asking for monthly subs. Animations and combat are atrocious, cant imagine many players subing month after month for this. I'll probably get bored of it before beta is over ....
Question to anyone who's high level enough or knows more about the game: is tank/dps/healer combo required in dungeons? Or can groups just get in rambo style with whatever specs they have ?
Thank goodness I got into the beta. I REALLY want to love this game, but it's missing the magic that all of the others have, especially Skyrim and Morrowind. They thought they could jump on the MMO bandwagon, but can't anyone learn from ToR? Just can't take an established franchise and poop an MMO out of it. (except for SWG PRE CU, that was magical)
When it goes free to play, as long as it's not pay 2 win, I'll give it a go.
Like many others, this just makes me get back into Skyrim.. update mods, jump in headfirst.

I think one of the things that's responsible for this game being a bit... weird...
Although a lot of hardcore gamers will really big on the Elder Scrolls since at least Morrowind, I don't think that Zenimax probably considered TES to be so valuable a franchise until Skyrim came out and became a pop culture icon for awhile. Basically, I think this game started out as an attempt to make a cheap MMO to better monetize the franchise, and since Skyrim came out they've been pouring real money/effort into it to try and make it an actually acceptable game.
Now that Skyrim has massively increased the value of The Elder Scrolls, they're probably afraid of damaging it with this shitty mmo, and rushing to fix it. But it's probably too late to do that, at least within the first 3-4 months after the game launches. I mean if I remember correctly this game was originally supposed to not even offer first person gameplay.
I honestly don't hate it in the way that some people here do, and I might even give it a shot. But if there's any chance of it being seriously good ever they have a LOT of work to do.
worst shit i've ever seen. Did those skyrim quests and suddenly the worst invasion i've ever seen happened. You NEVER had the feeling of any kind of imminent threat, you never saw or heard anything and suddenly after you were gone for 2 minutes from a village it had been burned and sacked But nothing really happened, just some burning effects and some newly placed npcs. Where was the invasion video? This shit can't be right.

I don't think your theory is far from the mark. Certainly they were influenced by Skyrim's success. I agree that it has a lot of work to do, but I also remember thinking that in WoW's beta. Shit, a month before that launch and they had an entire class unfinished and serious combat bugs. Both SWTOR and GW2 had serious issues before launch, too, although perhaps the first example isn't the best one to give in this scenario.
Anyway, my first impression from the first beta (Nov) was pretty negative (I posted on some gaming sites saying it would take a year from launch to fix everything). They did make a lot of changes from beta to beta and I was particularly impressed with the improvements in the crafting system, for example. I think they are capable of fixing/adding what is needed but they will have to work fast if they intend on keeping the initial player base. My impressions are now that they could perhaps get it done within six months of launch instead of a year, but they will have to seriously prioritize to make it work.
How does one get Crafting recipes for blacksmith/weaponsmith or the bow crafting recipes?
Or you can't get them in strosmmkay? (had to go back since my gf started playing this beta)
Cooking, enchanting and alchemy are not problematic but for some reason I can't get anything crafted with the rest of the professions I do refined the materials, just missing recipes.
Game might be complete crap (though it's not) - but the environments and the weather/lighting is very good on max settings. Definitely among the best I've seen in the genre, if not THE best.
I think TSW beats this in the visual department - talking technical and aesthetical here.
Also, performance needs a lot of optimizations in town. For no reason, my GPU usage drops, without my CPU usage going beyond 60-65% - so there shouldn't be a bottleneck.
TSW most definitely needs an SSD - you are fucked without it: slowdowns and load times will kill you.
I have a fast SSD
It's fine out in the "wilderness" but when you move towards towns and gatherings - it stutters like hell, and I don't have bad hardware. Obviously, I run at max settings - but I do that in most games, including ESO.
Quote:
But GPU is at 99% all the time, so it scales a lot better with your hardware.
Ehm. I'll take the game that runs 100% smooth at all times over the stuttering sluggish dog - and I don't care in the slightest about scaling in that case.
But that's me
TSW has a great and unique atmosphere, as I said - and that's great. But it has very limited variety in terms of environments, it has crappy PvP, it has extremely boring combat (yeah, I think ESO is MILES ahead of it here too), it has a nice character system in concept but terrible in execution, it has nothing to offer once you exhaust PvE content - and it's not doing too well even with its F2P model.
Some parts of TSW look good, but in other ways it just looks like unforgivable ass. And the art style is sometimes a bit of a mess, lacking a good overall direction.
Generally I'd say that ESO is a better looking game.

I also asked about group dungeons, but no one answered. Are they not accessible in this beta or ? Would really want to know how those work, especially since there is almost no info about player - enemy npc's buffs/debuffs & such stuff....

They are most certainly accessible, yes, but I don't have any experience running them. There are plenty of people running groups for them and they start anywhere from level 8-12.

I tried the same dungeon with a group like in the previous beta, and same as then, we ended up not seeing each other inside the dungeon, different instances or something. So we gave up.
SSDs offer little benefit to games - see the [H]ardOCP article about it - but they are pretty much a requirement for hardcore MMO/multiplayer players. I can't imagine playing without one. It made a significant difference in games like World of Tanks, for example. That being said...some of the slowdowns in this beta are most certainly not related to hard drive performance. I also have TSW and it does benefit from a SSD, though.
Atm there are quite a few PVP videos uploaded to youtube and more videos are coming.

The closed beta testers say that farming Cyrodiil dungeons is very profitable(atm at least). Mobs/bosses drop quite often rape/epic items of your level BUT it is also dangerous because other players might attack you Oh, and you get lots and lots of XP
+ you can get rare materials needed for legendary crafting only in Cyrodiil afaik
So it won't be only about castles and becoming the Emperor;) there will be battles for resources, for epic loot as well
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
