I need android-based media player with xbmc and remote support. I'm trying to hook my parents up with weebtv, it's a service to watch Polish TV. It seems relatively stable and cheap considering their channel offers. And they also have xbmc plugin, which should make it simple to navigate through channels with xbmc and remote.

Here is what I picked so far.
G-Box Midnight MX
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CH643A8/ref=s9_simh_gw_p23_d1_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=04R26AVB2HPMEGJPJKQD&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846
It's $100, kinda expensive but reviews are somewhat good...?
There are few other in $50 price range but reviews are just horrid.
Ixi was no help last night so I figured I would ask all you experts to help me make the right purchase. Very Happy Very Happy

That forum is pain to navigate and most of the threads are for HTPC sadly. Sad

I was looking for Pivos(and reviews are not all that great either) last night but damn it looks like costs will quickly ramp up. Little Black Box is already $150. Yikes.

Luckily, I won't be streaming any HD movies just that internet channel so I doubt I will have any lag even if I get slightly lesser spec machine.

That thread is specifically for the MX2.

anyway, I dont know I have not played with XBMC on android since the early builds (before libstagefright and mediacodec Very Happy) but I would read around there, or atleast search for the box you are looking at first.

Saner pls. I actually owned Ouya back in the day, sold it right away when it still had somewhat of a value. Should have kept it. I was so angry with that kickstarter, should have never back it up.

Chromecast ($35) has been open-sourced and there are a lot of stuff available for it and more is coming (like local streaming from PC/whatever)...

http://www.xda-developers.com/android/google-chromecast-sdk-now-available-to-developers-more-supported-apps-to-come/

Some devs managed to root the device but Google forced an OTA update that "fixed" that. All we need is a new root and disabling automatic OTA updating.

Is a Roku viable? Runs plex really well, Netflix and all that. Weeble might work on it. I'm on my phone and can't check

Not sure if Chromecast would be good for this. I still would need to get a remote for it, does it have bluetooth also?

I think I read there is no xmbc for Roku?

Only reason I want xmbc support because it is easier to navigate through weeb tv. I think my parents would get too confused to if they had to visit the website and do all that stuff. (pretty sure its possible with xmbc to boot straight to it instead of starting the app)

I kinda want it "idiot-proof" so when I'm gone, nothing will happen or they won't click something by an accident.

Could look at a Pi

With a class 10 sd card and decent USB stick xbmc runs well, as long as you are not unrealistic in what to expect.

You would need to get a remote, flirc is pretty good as an alternate - http://flirc.tv/

I may be wrong but I have always read team xbmc have no interest in the Roku (cue the homepage now announcing a Roku port)
