With my 660Ti 2gb, on insane tha game runs with around 40s with everything else full blown and there are drops but its not "comic book" drops, its "slow down" drops like on the consoles. When I switched back to high from insane and the game went to 60+ and never dropped bellow 60 (it seemed like it was locked to 60 actually lol). So yeah.. its the next gen I guess. I was planning to buy another Ti for SLI but I assume I have to buy newer GPU with more than 2gb .. FUCK!

Seriously, it's the best "stupid-fun" MP game I've played in a long while, the best one since MW2 for sure.
And yeah, MW2 MP was fucking awesome, fuck you :< | As long as you don't pre-order it we're cool.
You're not going to pre-order it, right?!

It would simply cache less of the textures. As long as there's enough memory bandwidth, it takes an awful lot of data pushing to saturate that memory bus. AMD has at least been well ahead of that curve for years now. Nvidia tends to skimp on bandwidth a bit more, but even so there is almost nothing that can really push anywhere close to 150 GB/s across the memory bus (for reference; a 770 has 224 GB/s, a 280X or 780 has 288 GB/s, a 780 Ti has 336).
There are other factors, such as disk read speed and CPU power that limit how much you can push to the GPU memory. Why do you think AMD is banking on hUMA (unified memory) and Nvidia is looking at stacked DRAM? We're at a point where just blindly increasing memory size and bandwidth is not going to be enough.
To give you a few indications of just how much memory even "just" 2 GiB really is:
- A single 1080p frame, with 4xMSAA and 32 BPP: 33177600 bytes or just under 32 MiB
- Similarly, a 2048x2048x32 texture: 16777216 bytes or 16 MiB.
So in 2 GiB of memory you can store 3 frames (triple buffering at its simplest) and 122 of those crazy (nonsense) textures above. Obviously there's other things which require memory in the mean time, but 2 GiB still is an awful lot, especially considering the fact that we're still mostly getting 512x512 textures. If your scene requires 10000 textures (exaggerating on purpose) those few megabytes will be bottlenecked by disk read speed (and access time if you have an unpacked game - which is none of them these days).
That's why texture streaming exists: to minimise disk seek time. Obviously, the more you have to swap textures, the more you'll be accessing the disk, so what most engines do is load more textures into memory before they're even necessary. That way, when they do need them -if they need them at all-, they're already there in memory and they save either waiting for the textures to come in from the package being streamed, or even having to seek on disk.
At this point you're probably thinking "so it *does* need more memory!" - no. Because most games simply do not have that many texture and most certainly not at the crazy resolution above. 90% of any game's textures will be way under 1 megabyte, so 2 GiB can fit an awful lot of those. A large portion of those cached textures will never even be used. And that streaming, even on terrible drives, still happens at well over 100 MB/s so that's dozens, if not hundreds of textures per second. Until texture resolution goes up (and sorry kids, but this game does NOT have crazy textures, not even at the "insane" preset), we're not quite there yet. We are at a point where 1-1.25 GiB isn't enough anymore, but we're not quite at the point where 2 GiB isn't enough yet. Not with the crazy amounts of bandwidth we have available for those tiny textures.
Oh and keep in mind that this game was built for the Xbox One (yeahyeah fanatics, PC first - MY ASS ), which is severely limited on all fronts that affect loading textures, so they *have* to cache everything. Its primary bandwidth goes back to 2006 levels. The one thing it does have plenty of, for now, is memory. Considering how small the maps are and how awful the texture quality really is, it looks like they just cache their entire texture ZIP, or as much of it as possible at least. Doesn't mean they need all of it. Without the extra memory all that happens is that it has to swap some textures early on in the game while it's still figuring out which ones it needs exactly.

I am terrible at it, make no mistake. Usually this alienates me to online shooters before I can "get good" but with this game even when your not particularly good at it you still feel like your having a great time. The game makes sure you can always access the mechs and each one is tied to you so no one can steel it. Usually in multiplayer shooters if your crap you've never got any chance of playing with the good stuff.
I may buy this as well.
Textures are fucking horrible though.

i'm having fun.
And that's whats important (for me).
I don't care about those bots (who are more cosmetic then anything else and just add to the atmosphere),
i don't care about the "aimbot" gun (even tho it has a very limited range and long lock on time anyways and you'll be dead from any other weapon way before that, frontal anyway)
It's fast, it's action, it's fun.
What's wrong with that ?

I like shooters that are the exact opposite, because those shooters are the ones with higher skill ceilings - but design trend has moved against this.
Perfect example is once again ut2k4. It is true, you won't enjoy it, unless you are goodish, but even if you're not, in team games you get to play with the best weapons, you just have to pick them up.

At least these bots try to capture flags. That's hell of a lot more then the regular COD/BF player does.

By all means, go ahead

The game is fun but i don´t know how long the fun will last. I really wanted to play this game but after playing several matches I think it won´t be what I expected. I mean, i played cod before, i played Hawken before, and aside from the pilot movement which is definitely my style of gameplay, there´s nothing really new here. 3 games modes is not enough, ctf would have been great imo. Unless the maps are extremely good, i don´t see myself playing this game for long, and it comes from someone who was extremely hyped about this one. Am I the only one who thinks this way?
