So my cousin was in the embassy, getting a work/pleasure visa to go to the land of free, to meet with his work supplier, whom he does sites and stuff privately on his own.
So he's sitting in the lobby, waiting for his interview, and looks at his chipped nail on his thumb and smiles at it.
Then they call him to the interview and ask him how does he know that woman, he has no idea what woman, they say the woman he smiled and gave thumbs up to, he says he doesn't know her, and shows and explains about his chipped nail, and they refuse giving him a visa, because they think he knows her.

Getting US visa is so fucking dumb. Entire process is pretty retarded. And they deny the visa to 90% people on the spot to Poles. After you pay $150. My three cousins got denied. One was still in school, so that should have been no problem since he would come back. Second one was unemployed and spoke little english. Third one had a brother in US for a short while but he beat shit out of employer. .

I had an encounter, but with border police.
We were at the Niagara, and took a bad turn onto the bridge that goes straight to the Canadian border station. When realizing it, we immediately started looking for a place to turn around, but we were boxed in and the oncoming lane was cordoned off with concrete barriers.
So we managed to find one hole near the end, turned tail and went back, only to run into the US border station. 
Needless to say, we had out passports in the hotel. 
We spent a good hour or so in the immigration office, waiting for an official to explain our blunder. Finally one of those stereotypical stocky US policemen came out, I quickly explained what was going on, got a bit of a lecture about always keeping our passport with us and let us get back to being tourists.
I guess getting "caught" at one of their biggest tourist traps and having a decent guy hear our case was kinda lucky.

so the US embassy rejected the visas for a good rock band too, and they had to postpone their US tour, and only attend their Canada tour.. they had no explanation for the rejection 
there are speculations, that they want to rise the rejection rate to 10% so they don't have to drop the visa regime, as the EU is pressuring them to drop it for all EU counties in the next 6 months
and/or they're making money of people attending second interviews and paying another 180$ or so
