I quit on february the 8th 2013. Best decision ever.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

I never smoked, but it was amazing to see that my grandfather stopped smoking after over 50 years of smoking. He needed big patches in the beginning, but he made it. He also stopped drinking beer during that time, because he said whenever he would drink something the need for a cig would be too big.

you didn't quit. You are quitting (or trying to anyways).

It takes a little more then 2 weeks to having "quit" Smile

But good decision anyways.

There's just no need for this kind of negativity when stopping smoking.

You did quit. You are no longer a smoker. Smile

Gave up over 15 years ago when my father had a heart bypass. I quit on that day and never had another cig again.

The cravings can last a long time, and they are usually the strongest in social situations and stressful times. Willpower and determination, and never try and quit if your not 100% behind the decision, I failed quiet a few times before I was successful.

Keep it up.

Over two years without a cigarette here Smile

One very strange thing I noticed once I stopped smoking is that I actually started having dreams again... vivid ones at that. When I would smoke, I would go sleep, darkness, wake up Sad

Stopped for 3 years @ 40, never ever left me, never will, started easily again, been enjoying it ever since Smile

Worst thing I ever took up in my life, and that is the best advice I can give. NEVER ever start, simple as that.

I'll die smoking because I am addicted and enjoy it too much. Simple things like a cup of coffee/tea and your meals are just not the same without one, if your addicted that is Wink

So, started @ 14 --> 40, 3 years quit, and I'm 51 this year, think long and hard about it!

Thats not encouraging. But I can confirm, my memories of smoking are not only bad ones, and I feel a little need sometimes, but that goes away pretty fast.

It helps alot that alot of friends also stopped lately, and that they managed to ban smoking from bars.

It also helps to think about the chemical cancerogene crap they add to the tobacco and the money they make from my addiction.

I started at 12 / 13 (ish) and stopped at 31

I just woke up one morning coughing like hell, I say one morning but in truth it was more often than not, and I thought fuck it and stopped there and then.

That was it, never smoked again bar one cigar on boxing day 2012.

The wife gave up 6 months after me too, she used patches though.

I still allow people to smoke in my house and it does not bother me in the slightest (nor the wife). Maybe we are lucky ones.

I quit smoking 3 years ago and while I haven't needed one since, I do miss the taste and experience quite a lot - especially after a meal or a drink. Sadly I haven't seen or felt a single benefit to quitting so it's quite often that I wonder why I did it at all, but oh well, I guess I'll live longer? Very Happy

My early morning coughing stopped and I dont miss the lingering smell, I do miss the initial smell and taste though Very Happy

But I am happy to have quit just to be rid of that coughing to be honest.

Oh yeah, that initial smell is yummy. My missus thinks I'm nuts, but whenever I walk by someone smoking, or I'm in the same house/area, it's always a wistful sigh Laughing Luckily I never had the coughing fits, even though I was smoking since I was 11 and quit when I was 29.

Lol, if you smoke from time to time, then it's not quitting. It's denial Razz

It's like an alcoholic saying: "I haven't touched booze for 15 years now... unless I'm with friends or it's Friday night out"

Well no I dont, I smoke mainly spliffs(you know part weed part tobacco) but when I take tolerance breaks or just breaks in general I dont have a desire to smoke cigarettes at all. I'll smoke sometimes at parties or something if I want to Smile And I can easily go to parties without smoking.

It's hard, and certain things go hand in hand; like coffee and smokes, drinking a beer and having a cig, even having one after a meal.

If you are really trying to quit, it's best to avoid some of these as best you can. Some people have an oral fixation with it too Cool Face so you can keep a toothpick or straw in your mouth to help get over it.

Whenever I "quit" smoking and have a coffe I go "fuck, why did I had to have coffe"

Also, vaping and smoking cigarettes doesn't really go in pair. After vaping for a few hours I can't stand the taste of cigs.

I tried to start back when I was 16 because all my friends did it and it seemed the coolest way to attract chicks. The non-smokers were generally considered "losers" according to the teen logic of that time, so I went ahead. I shall be cool too!

Fortunately the whole smoking thing lasted only a month, right when my father discovered it. He "convinced" me to quit (he was..very convincing Laughing) and I've never touched a cigarette again. Can't thank him enough Razz
