I can tell you why I registered for beta even though I wasn't interested in a WoWish kind of MMO.
I was hoping to get surprised by something that would peek my interest. Unfortunetley that didn't happen, I uninstalled it 2-3 hours later.
My friend however loved it and is still playing the beta today to it's fullest. He said he's even going to pre-order it because he thinks it's that awesome.
To each his own, I guess.

Thats good for him. If he loves it, then be happy for him because he has fun! Why not?! Smile

I think that ArchAge will be the next MMO for sandbox-"loving" players. I hope it will be the game they hope where they have the freedom to do all those things they want to do.

Everquest Next... hmm.. i dont think this will be released before Spring 2015.. And if this is going to be 100% sandbox too? I dont think so and it has the "cartoonish-style" too Cool

. But it doesnt mean that this game is crap.

they are different levels of crappines.
for example :
wildstar is crap because it ask for a premium price and a sub.
is decent if it would have been f2p. (decent not means that is a decent mmo, cause is still crap, just mean that people have lower expectation from it).

For me F2P Games have much less content at release (in most f2p mmos, thats the case.. or every?)
Wildstar has really much content for a release. Much much more then every MMO of the last 5-6 years. Yes even RIFT had not this amount of content at release and RIFT was the last successfull themepark-subscription-mmo of the last years.

I dont know if the subscription model is really good or not today.
What i know is, that a game with subscription has not as many players as a F2P game. But those players who play such a subscription-based game mostly play this game longer as if this would be a f2p game. (oh my god my english is really bad in this scentence.. i´m sorry!)

And i think thats the reason why a subcription-based mmo has to have lots of content from release on (and polished one..). Thats the case in wildstar.
If the game will be successful or not.. we will see. But "successful" does not mean it has to have 5 million players over 5 years. Wink
A subscription-based mmo doesnt need 3-4 millionen players to be successful. 300 000 to 400 000 on long term are more then enough to be successful.

I'm not a huge Angry Joe fan, but his opinion in the beta preview is pretty similar to my own. He basically states that people who are looking for a certain type of MMO will be happy with Wildstar, but he personally found it boring, grindy, and of an expected style that didn't bring much to the genre, while having a bit too much forced humor. That's precisely how I'd describe the experience.

So hailey's opinion is technically correct, as is 3dcViper's, although I personally lean much more towards the former. If this is what you want out of a MMO then it's pretty much spot on...but if you're tired of it (and I was tired of it many years ago), there are other options available. Again, not siding with anyone or saying someone is wrong...I just think it comes down to personal expectations.

Also, in response to frogster and the idea that this game hasn't shown great improvement over the last year...well, that's one reason I prefer ESO. In the first beta I complained about crafting, two betas later completely overhauled and awesome. Last beta I complained about no collisions, bam two weeks later (in the current closed beta client) they already have a working system in place. They react very quickly to the community and show the capacity to fix and add shit on the fly (thanks to their moddable engine, despite what the naysayer's claim). That's what I want out of a MMO...not WoW in space (I already spent time in SWTOR, thank you). I know a lot of people who play Korean MMO's, F2P's, etc., who are absolutely dying to play Wildstar, and that's cool, but that's very much not me.

If what you're saying is that Wildstar is effectively a premium F2P game that hits all the typical MMO notes (which also applies to GW2 in my opinion), then I'd agree. I also agree you don't need WoW numbers to be successful, or anywhere close to that. Quite honestly I'm glad we live in a time when we have so many options (although people still complain). Yes, I'd love a truly "innovative" MMO, but MMO by its very description implies a legacy that you just can't shake overnight. Some people love them for what they already are and don't need constant flashes of light to keep their attention...but between Wildstar, ESO, and Everquest Next, I feel fairly satisfied.

Thanks Maxxify. I see it the same way.

I saw the Angry Joe "preview" too and he was not wrong. But one thing i did not understand from him was the lack of story. Wildstar is the first themepark-mmo where i want to read the questdescriptions and follow the main storyline since years.
Why? Because the story is "new".. or better.. "fresh". Its not the old and same story like in RIFT, ESO or other fantasy-mmo with orcs, dragons and humans.
But perhaps this is a part of personal taste too Very Happy

He seems to have a bit of an anti-subscription agenda so I can't take him too seriously. Then again, I thought subscriptions were dead after SWTOR, but I've since changed my mind (albeit I'm still very cautious on that). In any case...yeah, it's more original a universe/story than I've seen, although some people love the stock fantasy stuff (I admit to being one of them).
