NBC has purchased the rights for an adaptation of Constantine for television, and so far the network has committed to a script (with a penalty if it decides to cease development of the show), according to The Hollywood Reporter. David Goyer — who wrote for Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, and Man of Steel — and Daniel Cerone, the executive producer of The Mentalist and the first three seasons of Dexter, will work on the project with Warner Bros. Television and DC Comics.

Back when casting first began, we predicted that the show could end up with a British John Constantine in a US setting, since a significant story arc in the comic books focused on Constantine’s time spent in America. It’s a formula that’s been used successfully in CBS’ Sherlock Holmes procedural drama Elementary, and is a decent compromise between total faithfulness to the source material and the network’s desire to appeal to a US audience.
It looks like this is exactly what NBC has planned, based on some new plot details from Bleeding Cool and the lead casting choice of Welsh actor Matt Ryan (the voice of charismatic pirate Edward Kenway in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag).
Bleeding Cool previously broke the news that the show’s protagonist would be a blond Brit with a London accent, and according to the latest report from the site, the Constantine pilot episode will be set in New York and will feature Papa Midnite as its main antagonist. If the pilot goes well and Constantine gets a full series order, Midnite and Constantine will continue to face off against one another as the series runs on, with increasingly higher stakes.
Papa Midnite in Constantine Constantine to be Set in New York; Papa Midnite is Series Antagonist
In the comics, Papa Midnite is a New York mob boss and skilled voodoo practitioner cursed with immortality, who by turns finds himself fighting against and reluctantly allied with John Constantine. He has his own brand of powerful magic to combat Constantine’s trickery, which combined with their adversarial relationship could make for a compelling on-screen rivalry. In the 2005 movie adaptation he was played by Djimon Hounsou.
Bleeding Cool also reports that some scenes will take place at Ravenscar Psychiatric Hospital, the asylum where John was sent after losing his mind in the aftermath of a ritual gone wrong. At a guess we’d assume that these scenes will be flashbacks to John’s dark past, though in the comics the character does end up returning to Ravenscar some years after his release.
The Constantine pilot will be directed by Neil Marshall (The Descent) from a script by Daniel Cerone (Dexter). Ryan is largely an unknown element, but if he’s as good a face actor as he is a voice actor then he could be exactly the kind of Constantine that this show needs. Not to mention the fact that Constantine’s home town of Liverpool is right on the border of Wales, so geographically speaking Ryan is probably close enough.

If it had DmC setting with demonic boobs , sex , gore ,brutally vulgar jokes, badass action and whatnot it could be fun to watch. Alas, it won't happen./
We''ll see how it turns out.
Friggin' awesome! This is great news, I just hope the pilot goes well and we get a full series I thoroughly enjoyed the Keanu movie, though it was more a retelling/reboot of Constantine, as opposed to a REAL Constantine story
..... Though NBC, so we can expect a rapid cancellation
How could you possibly enjoy it? Keanu can't act shit.Yeah, I know it is fantasy action, but still.. Imho the only good thing about the movie was Peter Stormare(now dat guy just OWNS!) and some demons
Keanu Constantine was pretty good, epic performances by Tilda Swinton (Gabriel) and Peter Stormare(Satan), decent Keanu and Rachel Weisz, really enjoyed it, still got DVD
TV series, NBC and this guy as Constantine

Yeah the movie was pretty good in my book, but this show has bad written all over

I love Keanu Reeves, including pretty much all his films so far, Constantine was no exception. I never really "got" the whole "can't act" thing, how is what he does NOT acting? Meh, horses for courses
Loving Goyers writing credits btw and there I was thinking he cowrote (at best) all those films.

I saw things like that in here and in other "woman problems" topics so...... Am I the only one that thinks some authorities needs to be alerted about Saner and him possibly being a rapist and/or kidnapper ?
Saner is not being serious. Unless its the subject of Santa!

Definitely nailed it as far as I'm concerned They did release another promotional shot with the actor giving a sardonic and smug look, which didn't *completely* fit with Constantine, but this one is much better
Well he is cynic, foul mouthed brit in the comic books...

I like his cocky attitude, it's something different for a change . The rest didn't look too interesting for me, but if the feedback will be positive I'll bite even if I'm not a fan of the genre.
Man, I loved the movie.... but not sure about this one. I think it will have a hard time finding an audience, especially since it will be airing here on Friday nights, which is known as the death slot....
I'll check it out, but I predict it will struggle. Hope I'm wrong.
