Whatever happened to the feature Steam announced just before the Xbone release which was the same sort of concept Microsoft was going to offer with the always online that you could share games with your friends if they wasn't playing it?

Would have no problem sharing with people, but as I know I would never ask someone to share their steam with me,
i don't expect anyone would even ask me,
except people whom i wouldn't trust my account with anyways Laughing

You don't let them have your account it was if you add someone to friends list then they can see your games library and play games.

this is great idea but looking at replies here you lot haven't even heard much about it so it must of been scrapped.

We know pretty well how it works, seeing most of us were in beta.
Doesn't mean that if we can that we want to share it with everyone and his goat you know.

And with trust I mean: Knowing that someone who isn't going to whine on me since they were or wanted to play, bitching about games I own, bitching about games they think I should buy...

Many possibilities out there for annoying the fuck out of me. So nah I think I'll take 0 risks in that, I don't even want access to someone else their account. Got enough on my own that I still need to play

Damnit, I just created a steam account for my GF so that she might try out some games I have but I can't get her account authorized.
Is there some kind of level she needs to be or does she have to own games before I can let her at my games or summit? Confused Sad

even if you manage to get her into your family share thingy, she can only play games IF you are either offline or not playing at all on your account.starting any game will boot her

Family Sharing is a mild joke i often giggle amused to while holding a hand in front of my mouth

Doh!
I thought that she could at least play the games I wasn't playing at the moment, for example if I'm playing DayZ she could play some world of goo... Sad
But if that's how it works then there's no reason not just to log in with my account on her computer when I'm not playing.
Silly, silly...

Why would Steam want to make it easy, they want you to buy two copies of the game, not just let someone play something you already bought while you play something else. At least it still is not as bad as Sony with their digital game purchases where you can only download them 2 times before you need to buy the game again so if your PS3 or PS4 breaks or you have a few in the house, you get screwed.

I think you can download as many times as you want and authorise and de-authorise consoles.

Yeah, this. I don't know where you heard about the limited downloads but it's absolutely not true, you can download as many times as you want and you can authorise/deauthorise any time you wish - you can even have two machines simultaneously authed so that either can have all the same content activated at any one time. It used to be FOUR machines, but Sony limited it after a lot of people were abusing gameshare, paying £10 for a £40 game split between 4 people, for instance.

I think when I heard about it was when they removed the 5 gameshare stuff as I know they had said it was just 2 downloads then you would have to buy the game again but I guess they added the authorizing of systems after that probably due to people complaining at the time. I guess the initial change made me just avoid Sony digital games so I thought they were still using that method. I remember around the same time the Wii Digital games were all tied to your console so if you got a new console your lost the games, I wonder if Nintendo also updated their methods but not really enough to actually search on Google.

*sigh*

Just because something is useless to some, doesn't mean it's entirely useless, Full Stop. My girlfriend has a Steam account that she's permanently logged into on her laptop. I have a Steam account permanently logged in on my desktop, in my bedroom. But sometimes, we want to play my games in the living room on her laptop - Family Sharing is actually perfect for us, since it means no logging in/out. I've got my Library shared, and we just play random games whlist watching TV.

The above scenario is actually pretty close to what Valve are aiming for, hence Family Sharing, not Friends who Live Halfway Across The World Sharing. Rolling Eyes

Edit:

Also, bear in mind that a lot of what Valve does with Steam is dictated by what publishers and developers will go along with. Certainly, I think Family Sharing would be better if certain games could be shared and it didn't lock out the sharer's Library whilst someone else was playing. But, it's then an invitation to have small sharing groups that pitch in to buy games and just share them on a central account. Great for users, but not for pubs/devs who would see a fall in sales. What we've got now might suck, but it's better than not having any sharing at all, which is a likely alternative.

How many people/devices are you currently sharing with? Maybe you hit the limit?

Quote:
Is there a limit to the number of devices or friends I can authorize to share my Library?

Yes. You may authorize Family Library Sharing on up to 10 devices at a given time, and for up to 5 accounts that may then use your game library on any of your authorized computers.

Does that four include yours? Should be good as long as you're under five accounts total, including yours.

Just me or every F2P is added to your library? Confused

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
