Mister_s wrote: | Any advice about a fun build? I was thinking about an elf street samurai because I want a ninja. I'm playing the main game. |
I ran through DMS 3 times using an Elf Street Samurai, then a Human Mage and my last run was an Elf Rigger. I did not really like the Rigger much but by the end of the game it is probably one of the strongest classes as you can have your 2 drones with 4 turns each so it's like having 2 more strong runners as part of your group but your character ends up being kind of useless with just 1 turn. My Street Samurai was focused on firearms mostly using rifles as melee never seemed that good when I tried it. With Dragonfall I will do my first run with the same Elf Street Samurai build but might mix it up a little as it looks like there are some new weapons and throwing weapons now. Your first run will help you see what some of the other classes can do with the runners you hire so you can get an idea if you want to try something different in your next run.

This is a very good game, I really like how it is made. If the expansion/DLC or whatever it's called is even better, I'll sure buy it.

I wouldn't worry too much about making the perfect character. This is one of the few games I've played where you can just make the type of character you want and still have fun. This time around I'm playing an Elf Decker with a rifle.

Melee might be a bit frustrating until you reach a certain point in power. You'll do okeyish damage at the cost of almost constantly being open to enemy fire, while your team will be as deadly (or more deadly, depending on their weapon o choice) while staying safe behind cover.
Personally I like shamans a lot. Their skills offer a variety of effects: awesome haste, usefull and flexible wall spells (you can shape a 5-tile wall any way you want), some debuffs that can easily turn the tide of battle if used right. Not to mention the fact that you also get a totem and can play with spirit summons which give you an additional edge when you need it.

Depends on which one you had, seems each has the save data in a different place.

With the latest add-on (DLC), including the changes, can you save anywhere now in the main game?

Yes, you can do it even without Dragonfall as the base game is now 1.2.2 and has save-anywhere --- just don't over-rely on it as some reviewers report that it can break triggers.

Thanks for info! This "DLC" is so good, that it made me wonder how come such a good game went under my radar.
Well, actually I know why I skipped it. I am not a fan of TBS games, but this one seems to be one helluva exception.

Is melee useless or am I doing something wrong? I created a custom character with melee and rifle, the melee damage (puny machete now), is a joke compared to the basic rifle.

Melee is a bit underpowered and rifle is vastly overpowered. You're basically comparing the best in the game to the worst.

Melee/unarmed is *only* worth taking if you're playing a Physical Adept, someone that uses Chi Casting magic to bolster their physical attacks. If you're just swinging with meat and muscle you won't do anywhere near the damage of rifles/etc; so you either need to augment with Chi magic or you need heavy cyberware.

It'll get better Mister_s. Once your skills are high enough and you have access to weapons that debuff AP on a crit (fairly early on), your guy will be disabling people he's fighting with terrifying regularity. Chi or Cyberware is a must, though, along with some investment in Body, Quickness and Dodge - otherwise you'll get destroyed.
Adept got a nice buff in the expansion (or rather the patches, I would think). Most slotted abilities now give passive buffs with stronger effects upon activation. Unarmed damage buff also stacks with brass knuckles and stuff like that, so it's a reliable way of upping your damage (when going unarmed, of course).

I played Dead Man's Switch for a short while (~2h), seems "ok", but i rather spend time on the DLC if it's much better. Can i jump into it and still grasp story / characters?

Nice to see them trying to fix problems pretty quickly as patch 1.2.3 was released last night.
I am not too deep into Dragonfall yet but in a game like this with all the text, it still surprises me that they did not run it through a spell check or at times it seems have anyone even proof read some of it. I have already come across a few misspelled words and a few missing words from sentences where you can tell what they were trying to say but it is still annoying that something as easy as copying the text into MS Office would have cleared a lot of it up.
Still, in the few hours that I have played of Dragonfall, I think it is a much more enjoyable game then DMS was and am looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds. DMS was a nice introduction to the game mechanics though so I guess it serves its purpose.

Do you have a changelog for 1.2.3? I've been playing DMS on and off for the last two days, I haven't seen any Steam updates come through.

They have been posting the notes in the Steam forums only it seems. They have not even posted them on the their official forums.

The very nature of Shadowrunners is that they're freelance and you can pick your team as and when required. The developers mixed it up a bit in the PnP game by adding "Contracts" (hell, they had this back in the SNES/MD days too) where you could hire Runners for a set period of time, rather than just a single Run, but as a rule each team only gets together for individual Runs.

I'm enjoying this gem. Brings back many fond memories. The music makes it. I think it would be a whole different experience without the same composers. I didn't play the Genesis version just SNES so I can't tell you the difference having both musicians collaborating. To those that have was it pretty similar?

I finally got HBS to answer my question about the new key commands for the Zoom Constraint by submitting a Bug Report and posting the problem on their Steam thread patch notes. The new command is Ctrl+M and they updated the Wiki with this new info. I still wish you could lock the zoom level so that it returns to your desired setting after each conversation or battle. Below is just a pic of me testing out the new command at the beginning of Dragonfall. It is the first thing you see when you start Dragonfall and not much of a spoiler but since the pic is large, decided to make it easy for others and add the tags.
