Yeah they're not like the others, no full-priced season passes here, and only worthy contents with awesome exclusive skins, it's their homage to all the fans and their loyalty. Patches will be free too, another nice gesture

And most of Europe, since they're all pointed towards Amsterdam or Dublin

Don't worry, they'll just remove the ping counter so you won't know your latency to the servers. PROBLEM FIXED!!!

isn't that more than enough? in from Baltic country and my ping was <40MS to both European master servers, i imagine people from western Europe should get <20ms pings. |
That's what most people think.
Sadly, the truth is far from that. I've elaborated on it before (in this thread too I think, might've been the XBO thread), but basically the average internet connection is still horrible and most ISPs across the world are shit at their job. I found that out the hard way a decade ago, when I started hosting gameservers, not much has changed since then really. A lot of countries are still more or less where they were then. For general use you won't notice, but in MP games you do obviously
German and French ISPs have notoriously bad routing, resulting in lots of packet loss. Germans more so than the French; with the French it depends on whether you're on the old Wanadoo network or not (if you are, it's shit). Germans typically avoid Dutch and British game servers because of that. Their ping "looks" fine (30-40, which is still high, considering that's about what I get to bloody Russia ), but that comes with 20-40% packet loss. When we play BF4 we need to avoid Dutch servers for ze Germans playing with us
Then there's the general state of the internet in the Mediterranean area. Just...bad.
For Scandinavia and even large parts of Eastern Europe it's fine, because they're often routed through Stockholm/Oslo and there's direct routes from there to Amsterdam and London
So no, Amsterdam and Dublin aren't good enough for gaming. It'll be good enough for a large group, but far from the majority. For websites and other applications that aren't latency critical, that's fine - which is what Azure was designed for. For gaming though, they should've at least had servers in Paris, Bern and perhaps Stockholm too.
