I usually look at the highest rated cards and buy the one who's second best
Yeah, me too - seems like the most logical thing to do, especially when the price of the best one is close to double the second, while having ~15-20% better performance.
Not once have I gone over the 400€ mark for a GPU (think three fitty was highest) and I've always been fine. My take on it has always been: wait for the right time and you get great equipment for a decent price.
Even when I was earning more than I could spend I couldn't justify higher prices.
I always want the best 'one card solution', no matter the cost SLI/Crossfire is a complete waste of time and money, with very little gains across the board (apart from ePenis scores/pics of course) and stresses and heats the system way beyond what I consider 'normal' for day to day gaming.
Roll on the 980GTX 24Gb Vram @ £1000 a shot, I'll take 2, one for a spare Well you never know?

Ah, man, I love yah but...really!? Shit. My three gaming systems currently run 2x760, 2x460 SOC, 2x8800-G92. Fantastic value, way better than my old single-card gaming ways (I still own my cards from before those, a X800 XT-PE, a 9800 Pro, and a GeF3 Ti-500). Once the teething problems were over for the first pair (8800's), it was pretty damn sweet, and I'll never look back. I spend about the same or, actually, less, and I get better average performance during the ownership period. Single-card gaming is for chumps.
(I will admit a higher initial investment due to cooling and power, though, and it is higher maintenance for sure)
The only part I agree with is the increased heat and noise, but honestly? Barring a minuscule amount of games, adding a second 570 to my system has been absolutely incredible. The performance gain is 50-80% across the board and it's really only the limited VRAM that is holding my system back now, which is why I'm selling these for a more powerful single card --- but I'll certainly add another partner to THAT one down the line I do wish I had opted for something with more teeth than my current Corsair 650v2 though, because while it does handle my 570s, it's getting pretty close and I had to limit my CPU overclock, so no GPU overclock *at all* ... meh.
That kinda sucks. I'd probably never fly one of those large ships. Gimme a nimble scout ship fit for hit and run attacks any day. But it'd be nice if they were available. Just so there's a possibility of destroying them and ruining the day of whoever is the owner
Was gonna chime in and agree with Sabin as far as the Idris was concerned but TheSisko chimed in with more/newer info.
Regardless, that's some bigass ships. I'm kinda getting an X3 vibe from that chart. Kinda...
I wanna run my own server at some point just to imagine myself as some cruiser commander protecting the galaxy from the evils of the universe. Or something like that anyway hehe.

Who cares about gameplay. It's one of the few next-gen looking titles out there so BRING IT ON.
we asked you to vote for the next stretch goal’s player reward… and the resounding winner was UEE Marine combat armor! You can read more about the armor, which will be unlocked at $43 million

We’ve eliminated the least popular reward (bonus UEC) and started a second poll; be sure to vote for what you’d like as the $44 million goal below!
sad...
Spoiler:
please let us know what you would like for the $100 million goal!
Once this game starts getting slimmed down to an "average" sized game and starts losing visuals and features due to "time and money constraints" and there's a more realistic playable release on the horizon, I believe the game will be adequately enjoyable, but far from the delusions of grandeur some people (including the devs) have today.
I'm more interested in how the FPS gameplay develops and how similar it'll feel to the vanilla Crysis experience.
Well that is going to be an awful long time further in its development. That being said, probably the 'easier' part of what they want to pull off seeing what engine they use. For that part of the game it's actually nice to see they are working together with the 'kingdom come: deliverance' team.
Bet both teams will get some gain by sharing expertise.

Couldn't agree more. This is probably the only time in gaming history where I WANT cutbacks - I WANT the team to stop shooting for the stars, to cut back on the insane visuals, to rethink their dreams a little, because otherwise this thing is simply never going to get made. Two years and they haven't even fully designed and nailed down the fucking HUD yet ... seriously, what the fuck? This is ridiculous. Elite is going to be out this year and already has a huge playable chunk of the game.

This is a concept of that hud btw.
