yeah Z87 seemed like the obvious choce, since my last was a z77 board ^^. Gonna check those out, thanks (the 4770k also already kinda floated through my mind, coming from a 3570k i5)
thanks.
add :
CPU
there are 2 different 4770k (note the difference in model BX80 and second is BXF80)
http://www.toppreise.ch/index.php?k3=3670&offset=0&manu=&filter=4770k
INTEL Core i7-4770K "Haswell", 4x 3.5GHz, Sockel 1150, Boxed
(BX80646I74770K)
Sockel H3 (LGA 1150), 4x 3.5GHz, 4x 256kB L2 Cache, 8MB L3 Cache, 22nm, 84W • Intel 64 (64-Bit), NX/ -Bit, VT-d, HyperThreading, Turbo Boost 2.0/HD Graphics 4600
INTEL Core i7-4770K "Haswell", 4x 3.5GHz, Sockel 1150, Boxed (BXF80646I74770K)
INTEL Core i7-4770K "Haswell", 4x 3.5GHz, Sockel 1150, Boxed (BXF80646I74770K)
Sockel H3 (LGA 1150), 4x 3.5GHz, 4x 256kB L2 Cache, 8MB L3 Cache, 22nm, 84W • Intel 64 (64-Bit), NX/ -Bit, VT-d, HyperThreading, Turbo Boost 2.0/HD Graphics 4600
anyone has an idea what the difference is lol ? (stepping ? revision ?)
Mobo :
the maximus VI seems a bit pricey for me (and i don't plan on going quad sli, ever ^^)
I'm flirting more with something like the ASUS Sabertooth Z87 unless there is something bad about i should know about, anyways
http://www.toppreise.ch/prod_319872.html for 175€
also need to add ram, that's why i won't go all out crazy with the mobo hehe.
probably something like this one :
G.SKILL RipJawsX F3-14900CL10D-16GBXL
2x 8GB, DDR3-DIMM, PC3-14900 (1866MHz), CL10-11-10-30-2N, heatspreader • Intel XMP 114€
so total of 270+175+120ish = 550€ or 670CHF. That sounds about right. I recover 400CHF for my old setup (mobo, cpu, ram, cooler, 660ti and 22" screen), so it's basically a upgrade that will cost me 270CHF (roughly 210€)
Yeah, i can live with that lol
So to sum up :
i5 3570k -> i7 4770k
Z77 -> Z87
8GB DDR -> 16GB DDR

The F in BXF80 stands for fanless, it doesn't include the intel default heatsink.

Just the look of the Sabertooth puts me off it.

oh and does anyone have a a suggestion for a cooler ? I currently have a 212, which i sell with my old stuff. And while it did me a good service, it's just too tall for my case (i had to remove the fan that was on the door lol. So maybe something a tad less tall (like the width of a fan i guess lol) ? Also the 212's are always dangerously close to the ram (and in some cases even overlap a slot lol). So i rather buy something else. In the 40-80€ price range. thanks.

yeah i'm actually playing with the idea of buying a corsair h80i or h90 or something like that. it's probably a better solution then another huge ass air cooler.

Take a look at my board, man. Maybe it sparks your interest, although I really don't see the need for 4 PCIe x16. Although THERE is one problem I saw on the Internet, both locally and newegg, some people complain about system hangs out of the box, although I have encountered no such thing, I have nothing to complain about. Also, my OC seems to be a whole more stable than the budget Z87 board I had before, although that would be understandable. If the things I said put you off, go for the GD65 from MSI instead, it's a great board and a looker, if I knew about it before I got this, I would have gotten the GD65 instead, if only for the looks, lmao.

well one thing is for sure, i won't need a 4 sli board lol. I really like to have a simple sli board, but which excels at it. So all i really need are 2x ports for the gpu's and maybe 1 for an eventual audio card (which is long overdue anyways). But dunno what slot they use (doubt they use the big pci-e slots lol, probably pci or mini-pci-e)

Quad sli is mostly useless on z87, imo, as 4 cards work kn something like 4x or smth. But the features are really nice. Well, I am satisfied with it, but your needs are probably different.

i7-4770K is much OVERSTATED
if you're not going to work with your computer on some very cpu intensive work, like hours of video processing, 3d modelling and such, you don't need it.
get i5-4670K
it's 100$ cheaper, and for gaming it's around 2% difference in performance FPS
here's my build:
and for cooling I'm using:
Thermalright HR-02 Macho Rev.A
http://www.thermalright.com/html/products/cpu_cooler/hr-02_macho_reva.html
it's one of the best for it's price range around 70$

is it a double or quad sli?
there are some realy good 1150 x16 MBs for dual SLI, that will be 100-200 $ cheaper than the 2011 setup
yeah but the BIGGER the cooler the LOWER the RPM

well the sound card would be really a secondary question as of right now. I wouldn't buy this right now anyway.

my Z87 drops PCI-E from x16 to x8 if anything is inserted into the second x16 slot
so I had to move my PCI-Ex1 LAN card up 1 slot and practically touching my GPU now
and the slot below is my PCI-Ex1 SoundCard
again the x16 to x8 difference is negligible but still..
edit:
Intel EXPI9301CT 1000Mbit LAN PCI-E
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI-E

x4 on new boards is the equivalent of x8 on older boards because of the bandwidth increase. (3.0 vs 2.0)

An audio card will most likely use a x1 PCI-E slot.

Ooooooh. It seriously slipped my mind we're talking PCIe 3.0. Didn't even realize it. Sorry.

anyway, about the :
4770k vs 4670k
seems the main difference is cache size and hyperthreading.
So i wonder how and if it may could affect my system (positive or negative) for a SLi setup (and also plan to OC the CPU, so that is a factor, too).

the 4670K is OC-ed to 4GHz wile setting the voltage to be static normal (the MB on auto will overvoltage the cpu)
also for gaming you rise the cache clock to 3.9Ghz (better results than 4GHz)
I disabled the turbo
and the CPU doesn't go over 60C
at the same time C2-5 work and it downclocks to x8 multipler or 800Mhz and 0.6-8V while idle
I don't know how it will impact on SLI

I wouldn't worry about impact between the two. They're both hiigh end CPU's
