100% agree on that. A lot of the atmosphere comes from lighting and in this video there is just not any atmosphere at all imo...

GTA5 also has low quality shadows, but shadows are only small part of the problem. Lighting in general is a lot more. This looks terrible.

I wonder if they have downgraded the gameplay as well, using the same one-button technology ..although I don't think it's actually possible to streamline Ubi games even more, unless you turn them into light gun shooters a-la Rambo or pull a Telltale with the interactive movie thingy.

If you try to get every useless piece they put in, I'm sure that figure can be right.

This game in some ways reminds me of the first Assassins Creed (not the graphics side of things)
They really did push the hype boat out on promoting that and it being rezoluuuuutoionarrry and instead it was dull and repetitive, it makes me wonder what was cut.
I liked the sequels though (so sue me)

I think it's a combination of things. Shadow quality in itself doesn't really affect the lighting, lots of games with terrible shadow quality but great lighting.
In this one I think it's the "flatness" of everything. It's overly bright and everything seems made from the same material. Almost as if there's no specular maps at all. And then an awful lot of things have got very weak colours on top of that, lots of undersaturation going on.

Quote: | “The entire development team has been working hard to polish and fine tune Watch Dogs in order to deliver a truly memorable open world game. In parallel, the extra time also allowed the team to include a bit of additional content.
“As per Australian classification guidelines, Ubisoft resubmitted the updated version with the added content to the Australian Classification Board (ACB). The decision to amend the rating of the game from MA15+ to R18+ was made by the ACB.”
No details of what the additional content entails were provided, but judging by the board’s new content guidelines, it was something to do with violence, sex and drug use.
Kotaku acquired a copy of the ACB’s report detailing a sequence involving sexual trafficking, which Ubisoft confirmed was added to the game post-delay. The scene implies sexual violence, which is not permitted under an MA15+ classification. |
