IIRC Titanfall also uses ~3GB of VRAM. Who knows how much more open world games like Watch_Dogs or Assassin's Creed Unity is going to use :\

I guess I could throw a little more cash in and get a 780 (they're 3 GB IIRC), that should probably work, right?

Yup, I'd definitely be looking at 3GB minimum these days. Shitty console ports will likely end up pushing that even higher (omg unlimited bandwidth on the unified 8GB consoles! Let's not optimise because that would just be too smart of us!) A 780 will be outstanding and will certainly power through anything. A 770 could OC to 780-esque performance levels but then, a 780 can OC too.

No, a 770 can't get to 780-ish levels. Trust me Laughing

And no, 3 GB really isn't necessary yet. I'm on a 2 GB 770 and I've had 0 VRAM issues. I certainly wouldn't drop below 2 GB, but a 4 GB 770 is just a waste of money, because a 770 can never really use that 4 GB efficiently even if a game can fill that up. It lacks both the bandwidth and the raw horsepower to really do something with that. Either you get a 2 GB 770 or a 3 GB 780 / AMD card.

Do not buy a 4 GB 770. Anyone who bought that wasted money (sorry saus and no, it doesn't help you in any way).

I don't know how many times I need to say it, but just because a game CAN use 3 GB or whatever, doesn't mean it REQUIRES 3 GB. Yes, there will be better VRAM use because the consoles have greater capacity now. On a high-end PC however that doesn't matter jackshit, because even Nvidia's cards still have more bandwidth (Sabin used the wrong word above Razz) than either of the consoles. Swapping the data is a much more viable option on the PC.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree because I strongly believe 2GB is not worth having any more, there *ARE* already games that use that much, so it certainly won't be long before they start requiring more than 2GB. So why limit yourself to 2? That's why I said get 3GB minimum - not 4GB Smile I was wrong about the 770 though, for that I apologise, I keep forgetting that the 770 is basically just a 680 and the 780 is pretty much a cut down Titan.

Thanks for all the help guys, as always. Smile

I also just noticed that there is a really good case for a good price- Silentium Gladius X60, which looks fucking beastly. Very Happy I don't really know a lot about cases, all I really need from them is good ventilation and a couple of USB 3.0 ports on the front. Any thoughts?

I highly recomend my box - Cooler Master HAF 912 Advanced.
It has 3 case fans, dust filters, PSU on the bottom and all air flows from the bottom upwards - as hot air.
And has a decent amount of front USB slots.

yeah I think Thief is the first game without mods which on 1080p can reach 2gb vram. No performance drops here or any problems. Windows just gives a warning and the game keeps working the same. no stuttering. I guess more games are going to be using more vram tho.

Do the new consoles have 8gb of vram or general ram?

It's both; a unified 8GB that operates for either main or visual memory.

For cases I'd recommend Fractal. sleek, no derpifications (I'm sorry but most 'awesum' cases look retarded to me), enough space, good airflow and some nice noise reduction.

There are others out there whom provide the same, I just fell in love with my R3 the moment I saw the layout and it's features so I stopped looking at others Laughing

Guess so. Like I said, I've not run into a single VRAM related issue yet.

My point was more about the 770 anyway. It's just retarded to get 4 GB of VRAM on that thing. Complete waste of money, because even when there is something that'll really require >2 GB this thing's not gonna be fast enough for it anyway.

Well, 3GB are eaten by the OS anyway, so for games they're left with 5GB.

Oh, OK then. Smile

You can also consider MSI Z87-G43 or Asrock Z87 Pro4 for motherboard. Both had favourable reviews and recommendations on Polish PCLab.pl

(Price doesn't seem high either.)

BTW, is a 650W PSU enough for a 780? I was actually considering buying a Gigabyte GFX 780 GHz Edition that performs at a near 780 Ti levels, but it needs more power.

All depends on the amperage output of the 12v rail/rails on that PSU Wink

I've been on an ancient 460 until now! I couldn't even finish one mission of Thief because of all the stuttering. :\

Yeah, I know the game isn't worth it either, but that was the final blow- I was sad enough when Tomb Raider autoset the settings to Medium Sad

Again, thanks for all the great help guys, couldn't do this without you

Also the jump from 4 GB to 16 will be an epic one, in some games it took me ages to alt+tab Very Happy

And there's a slight chance I'll be able to max out GTA IV Cool Face

Probably the only thing I'm going to regret once I upgrade Very Happy
For all it's age my system was pretty much rock hard stable and few were the serious bugs that I ever experienced among a huge number of games that I've played Razz

BF4 runs pretty good with high textures and a mix of medium and low settings. The SSD also helped and more so playing at 1440x900.

Ah, the resolution might be it- I've been on a 1920x1080 monitor ever since I upgraded to a 460 Smile

And hey, with my luck, all of the Assassin's Creed games will now run like shit, since I didn't have a problem with any of those with my current setup Laughing

Wow! Surprised I've upgraded my 460 to 660 last year because I could stand how the games were running in 1600x900 anymore.

So if you were playing games on it in FullHD all the time, I really admire your pertinacity.

I don't know almost anything about recent hardware these days, but from the looks of it, I'd say it's a damned badass PC. Congratulations are in order Very Happy

With such a rig you could easily handle Watch Dogs 2012 without hiccups. GTA IV will be finally playable as well, 30fps on high details won't be a dream anymore. And when Witcher 3 will come out, you'll belong to the elite of those who will be able to afford medium details with fur on! xD
