Hmmm... Interesting. Wonder if they plan on doing some hand-in-hand promotion with the CoH 1 Eastern Front mod guys? (Last I read, all game breaking bugs for the mod were fixed and they were planning on a Steam release in the next couple of months.)

Company of Heroes 2: The Western Front Armies

The Western Front Armies will be available as a stand-alone package that represents an entry point into the franchise and access to the vibrant Company of Heroes 2 community. New players can also access 23 existing Company of Heroes 2 maps in auto-match, and play against all other existing factions.

Something was updated.
(A ~4GB update is out.)

http://community.companyofheroes.com/forum/company-of-heroes-2/company-of-heroes-2-general-discussion/60859-company-of-heroes-2-the-western-front-armies-release-time

Which is likely because Western Front is being released early. Smile
(Was released early in some countries so it's being made available for everyone.)

Is the Western Fronts multiplayer stand-alone worth a buy?

It's pretty cool so far, but it's just the two new factions and a few maps, AFAIK.

But if you like the game, it's worth buying if you're into multiplayer - for sure.

I played the first Company of Heroes and a lot of Company of Heroes Online actually before it got canned. I was thinking about picking up the two armies just to play multiplayer. Does it get old fast or is there enough variety from one match to the next to keep it fun and interesting?

Nice! Are the armies following the vanilla (base Company of Heroes 2) game fun to play still, or do you only encounter the new DLC? Do people drop out of multiplayer games the minute they realize they're losing?

most vanilla armies are still fun to play even though some units need a desperate retweaking (like partisans are bugged atm only spawning male soldiers and not the correct loadout)

you see the new expansion the most since it's fresh and even after 3 weeks most people are still exploring

and dropping games still does happen but what they don't realise is that the system doesn't log the time for war spoils that way (ie you don't get a lootcrate at the end of a match if you drop doesn't matter if you win or lose just the time matters)

Going to check out the vanilla armies in COH2 first, grabbed it on an okay sale (imo) at Getgamesgo. If I like it I'll pick up the Western Armies, too.

Release: November 18th, 2014

Quote:
Company of Heroes 2: Ardennes Assault is inspired by the conflict that Winston Churchill once described as “undoubtedly the greatest American battle of the war” – the Battle of the Bulge. The new campaign content will see players take control of the US Forces in this pivotal World War II battle in the densely forested, strategically critical Ardennes region of Western Europe. They will face huge tactical and navigational challenges as they strive to repel a surprise attack from the relentless German Oberkommando West forces in 18 brand new, single-player scenarios.

Company of Heroes 2: Ardennes Assault will feature three entirely new Companies to choose from within the US Forces, each with their own unique Officers and play-style. Players will see their decisions and actions reflected across the Ardennes landscape in this dynamic new single-player campaign. Player choices are crucial as every decision will not only impact the story but also their Company with upgrades and Veterancy carrying over from mission to mission. With limited soldiers under your command, you must manage their lives and well-being effectively or risk losing that Company for good. Will you lead your Company valiantly and emerge as heroes?

“We can’t wait to bring our players this awesome new single-player campaign for Company of Heroes 2,” said Greg Wilson, Executive Producer at Relic Entertainment. ”We managed to include more missions in this expansion than we had in the original release and it’s packed full of great new features which we’ll be revealing over the coming months.”

Key Features:
    • Persistent Mode: Dynamic meta-map allows strategic control of territories which lasting effects on future missions
    • Player choice and Command role: As a Colonel of a Company the player will be able to make choices that impact the health and veterancy of each Company and affect future of their play through in order to encourage replayability
    • 11 Missions: All new challenges with non-linear mission selection along and mini challenges offering ambush and tactical opportunities and bonus objectives
    • 7 Engagements: All new scenarios offering dynamic new experiences on replays
    • 3 Companies: Introducing for the first time the Airborne, Support and Infantry Companies which all have unique specializations, units, abilities and perks
    • Dynamic post-mission reports: Dynamic post mission reports which show a Commander’s personal evolution, and how the war is affecting them based on mission results
