Path of Exile - Game of the Year @Gamespot Laughing

I heard it's a Diablo/Torchlight/Van Helsing kind of game, but done right. I personally dislike the genre but I understand millions love it, so I don't see what's funny about it either

DMC being among the nominated though, that's very Laughing worthy.

It's extremely well done, especially considering the quite small developer. That's a well fucking deserved award as far as I'm concerned. But these guys deserve even more, not just an award from GameSpot.

Path of Exile is a great game, ive been having alot more fun with it than Diablo3. It feels like a AAA retail game but its F2P. Try it if you like the genre.

http://www.polygon.com/2014/2/28/5451410/how-is-ethical-free-to-play-path-of-exile-faring

Quote:

"We probably would be making more income if we were pay-to-win," said lead programmer Jonathan Rogers. "But the game is doing very well. We paid off our development costs, the company is making enough money to expand."

Sacrifice of Vaal adds extra PvP content, a new race of dark-magic wielders and the ability to charge up super-powered weapons by killing monsters. But there will be no change to the game's low-key monetization policy.

"We would never want to compromise the game," said lead designer Chris Wilson. He added that gouging and persistent monetization policies generally hide game mechanics that are built around profits. The only way to win with a non-intrusive approach is to "make a really good game that people love to play."

They understood, even then, that pay-to-win would likely corrupt free gaming, although not to the extent that it has, most especially in mobile gaming. In a away Path of Exile is a vindication of their particular view of free-to-play.

"We thought about how we would react to it and we knew we would hate it," said Rogers. "I don't like how some people are so accepting of it. It's bad. It influences the game design in a negative way. As soon as you tie your game design to your monetization, it affects it. If you can buy a boost of experience, how is that separating gameplay and monetization?"

Great game, I've supported GGG, it was money well-spent. ( extra stash tabs, animal companions, char slots etc). However, there was sooo much RNG involved in it and not too much content, so almost all 10-15 people I often played with got bored after a few months.

Haven't touched it in 4 months, I keep reading a little about it though.

If you haven't played it, definitely give it a go! ^_^

Just shows how the game becomes a shoot-em-up like Ikari Warrior, Battle Squadron or Hybris. Too bad it doesn't have Battle Squadron's music.

It's a long way to get a build working like that. Even if you have the required items, you still need the skillgems and the fitting number of slots in the required colors.

So hyped for new leagues anyone planing on playing hardcore league ? I got to around level 87 and was in top 100 in nemesis league till my pc crashed and I died in a map. I kinda skipped last league as was burnt out on it but I'm really excited about the new mini expansion.

This game makes diablo 3 look like hello kitty, anyone even marginally interested in ARPG genre really should try this at start of new leagues.

is still require retarded amount of orb to get something marginally good trough trading ?
trading is still retarded ?
is still requiring a retarded amount of orbs (more than you can legally farm if you play from alpha) to get something marginally good by crafting ?

The masters in forsaken masters when unlocked offer crafting options to take alot of the RNG out of the game , crafting just with orbs is and prolly always will be expensive and very luck based, you can do it legally though Smile

When it comes ot trading I love trading in POE sure its not as easy to do as auction house style or whatever but with programes like procurement and websites like poe.xyz its fine, just have to learn how to use them. In the nemesis league i had a top 5 best 2 handed weapon in the league and also sold a top 10 one for example. I'd not say im that hardcore I prolly played everyday and a good few hours but not 18 hour days like some do.

Basically though crafting from a white to a best in league item gonna cost a fuck ton of currency and tbh thats how it should be, you can just use that currency to buy good items. The game seems overwhelming at the start but when you get to end game and into maps currency is not so hard to come by to buy decent items , obviously the rarest uniques and top tier rares are gonna cost a lot but its all about supply and demand Smile

If rarest items in the game were easy to get you would not get reactions like this :

this is one of my biggest grips.
obviously, people want better methods than their intended stupid system (ingame spam chat/outofgame shit forum), but no, let's stay on our shit way.

Basically though crafting from a white to a best in league
i dont remember to well the numbers (2000+ i think), but i exploited the shit out of orbs drops at bosses (party with fresh level 1 character i think), and even with that shitloads of orbs i never got a 6 link item.
i think i got a 5l with ~500 orbs. which are anyway a lot of them. after that to match colors. lol.

no thanks. that cured me of poe forever.

Check out http://poe.xyz.is/ man u dont need to trawl forums you can search there based on every single stat in the game. And when listing on the forum u can use a programme like procurement that automatically does it for you in a good format and searchable by poe.xyz , once you learn to use those programs its basically as good as if not better then d3 auction house but it also leaves bartering and social interaction in the mix.

The masters in new expansion basically let you pay the average for 5 or 6 links or off colour sockets, from a screencap it seems like its 150 fuses for 5 link and 1500 for 6 link, remember 6 link is one of most prized items in game. Trust me i know where u coming from, i remember busting my whole stash trying to get a 5 link I think it took 700 fuses (average 150) really pissed me off Smile
