If you have previously beaten Diablo 3 (On any difficulty, even pre-2.0 I believe.) then you can move directly to Act V, once completed you can move to adventure mode.
(And if you are level 60 you can use the Torment 1 to 6 difficulty levels.)

But considering the fact that you said you played D3 on Xbox and now you're planning to get it on Ps4, I'd say you have to start from 0.

Act5 opens after Act4, Adventures open after Act5. Mystic opens in Act5. However you do get to play Crusader immediately.

What exactly keeps you lads coming back to the game? I feel I am missing something obvious.
As mentioned a few pages back I bought the game on Sunday just gone. My char is now level 23 and I am bored stiff.

What am I doing or not doing? I really want to enjoy this game but it feels so stale and pretty much the same whatever you do, it's incredibly linear and so far I have only found 1 side quest, this is despite searching every inch (or so I think) of each area I am in.

The loot is fun and the game is well written with regards to the dialogue and NPC interaction. but apart from that I can't find anything to keep me coming back.

Should I be in a different area? (I am act 2 in the desert world) any tips or pointers are appreciated.

The game is very randomized, some events are also rarer than others so it takes a while before you've visited every dungeon and cleared every side quest.

The maps and overall layout of said maps remain relatively unchanged but there's a lot of triggers and such, passing by a location when going from new Tristram to old Tristram you might see a few houses with closed cellar doors, in another game - which is every time you return to the main menu essentially - some of these doors might be open and lead to other events from battles against bosses to various quest events or even NPC's such as wandering merchants.

There's also a very high focus on grinding so getting some of these special encounters or items leading to other areas can take a long time, or many attempts of entering and exiting a specific area throughout multiple games. Smile

@ Shimec I am not sure I want to carry on until level 70. I am certainly not going to just go through the motions simply to level up, I want to have fun whilst levelling.

@JBeckham so you are saying just go through the same areas over and over searching for better and better gear/encounters (by encounters I assume you mean bosses?)

Thanks

Hmm not quite like that since it was more of a description of how that mechanism work, I'd recommend that you just play the game like you want to and when you feel like it re-visit old areas again and see if there's anything new happening. Smile
(Running the same area over and over to see all possible events would get really tiresome so just play the game the way you prefer, with the level scaling you can also go back to any area and still find items and such that works for your character.)

EDIT: Adventure mode is great for this but it does require owning the expansion.

Cheers for the advice,as you can see I'm pretty new to the game.

A couple more questions.

Is there any crafting apart from blacksmiting? As I have not encountered any other crafting tables/trades And any idea how I use an adventurer's journal with regards to smithing? It states it is a legenday crafting material but I cannot find a use for is so far or a definite answer on Google.

Thanks

There's the blacksmith, by leveling him up you gain access to more receipts for higher level equipment but you also need to find separate scrolls to teach him the best crafting gear.

For ROS (The expansion.) you gain a additional two levels and the ability to craft very high-level equipment but ROS uses separate crafting items and also special items dropped or found throughout the game.

Then there's the jeweler a bit further into the game, by using him you can combine gems to stronger types, early on it won't cost much but the highest quality gems will require a lot of gold.
(As with the blacksmith certain tomes can be found to craft special pieces, in this case rings and amulets.)

For ROS you can access to Marquis gems as common drops and then Imperial and Royal gems when upgraded.
(Imperial gems can drop on Torment difficulty when you are above level 60 but it's a fairly low chance until Torment III or so.)

Finally exclusive to ROS is the mystic whom can transform your gear (visually only.) into any other found item of the same type (Which I consider a bit useless but it's not too expensive.) and whom can also replace a single stat on a item for another one.
(Which is a bit randomized though still structured so each attribute can be swapped for a list of others but it's randomized what you actually get.)

EDIT: For the blacksmith you also need components, white/common items generate normal components, blue/magical items generate magical components and yellow/rare items generate rare components (There's one type of each now, simplified a bit.) and finally by sacrificing legendary (orange, or sets/greens) you can that type of components.
(Again the expansion uses a separate list of components for items above level 60 but it works the same way.)

(Also components can drop although it's somewhat rare, speaking of that rare components can drop from champion type mobs and higher - others can drop as well but in my experience they're not as common as rewards.)

Cheers mate I am OK with the components, I have been salvaging drops for components from the start.

I assumed I would be able to merge the crappy gems I have found into more powerful ones.

I only have few legendary items, so it is worth sacrificing these?

Griswold's scribblings?

That's one of the special components for Resurrection of Souls, used for this -> http://us.battle.net/d3/en/artisan/blacksmith/recipe/griswolds-perfection
(Which is a item level 70 version of this - http://us.battle.net/d3/en/artisan/blacksmith/recipe/griswolds-masterpiece )

Or the adventure journal? It looks very much like a recipe that you use when accessing the blacksmith (That's how you teach them, right click on the item.) but it's also a component.

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/artisan/blacksmith/recipe/penders-purchase / http://us.battle.net/d3/en/artisan/blacksmith/recipe/pendergrasps

There are a couple of others that drop outside of the ROS Act 5 area, stash them or sell them if you don't have access to that content. Smile

My biggest issues after almost 200 hours of RoS:

#1: Wouldn't even think I'd say this... Legendaries drop a bit too often for my taste.
#2: The game needs alot more of them.

I'm currently burnt out of the game because I can't find any upgrades whatsoever.
Just like Kripp prophesied Sad
Especially since I'm not blessed by RNGesus like most of my buddies.
