But what is an acceptable replacement for chrome? Firefox is slow as shit at least, but what of Opera? I've been thinking of switching myself.

Install and try ghostery, it blocks pretty much everything including widgets (facebook, google+).

Seems to, until you start using Chrome on a daily basis, then you realize just how slow FF is Wink

That's the thing, in school everything is chrome... and in no way is that faster or a better experience enough to make me change (also it feeling like some hipsters take on a browser doesn't help )

Yeah, that notification pop-up still manages to come up whenever I resstart chrome. And like with KC I disable it each time yet it still comes back.
It really feels like the same shit with malware.

it will never show up on my machine after reboot, restart or whatelse.

chrome://flags
look for
"Google Now Mac, Windows, Chrome OS
Google Now-Notifications activate #enable-google-now"
disable it

Fix: FireFox

I'm always telling this to all of my friends. I don't get why they're using Chrome. I'd rather use INTERNET EXPLORER or FKIN SAFARI...

I always loved chrome, untill I realized how shitty it is at memory management. Firefox, and IE for that matter too eats up only 3rd of what Chrome does, and it's getting more ridiculous with every new release.

Firefox even looks like Chrome now, it's indeed a perfect replacement grinhurt

Pages full of emoticons/gifs are still its Achilles' Heel (albeit it got better and braver with each iteration), otherwise it's solid in my opinion.
