Man after playing POE I can't stand how this game looks. The backgrounds are pretty but the huge dmg text and rainbow explosions are a downer.

The rougher 3d models and simpler normal mapping does kinda hurt Path of Exile (Though I think it looks fine for a free game with a smaller development team and limited budget.) although at least the engine supports advanced features like that and makes use of them, they've improved slowly from update to update as well.
(Whereas the simpler style in Diablo 3 and the nearly painted looking textures while kinda unchanged since 2008 or so still holds up fairly well aesthetically - although up close the character models look terrible, especially the main menu image of your own character.)
EDIT: Speaking of old Diablo 3 I wonder how Blizzard North's project might have turned out had it been released - http://www.ag.ru/games/diablo-3/screenshots/374337
Early "new" Diablo 3 also worked more like Diablo 2 initially from the few screenshots available showing HUD and such details.

Gotta agree that the main menu character image is terrible - and actually hurts my fantasy of a bad-ass hero.
They should have done something differently, there.

They explained it on their forums about how they didn't see a need to spend more resources (And performance, this scales to very low-end systems after all.) for something that is by default seen from a ~30 meter height via the default isometric camera thus the rather blocky models and comparably low resolution textures even for armor and weapons, pressing Z to zoom in still works fairly well since even if the textures are lower resolution they are still quite detailed though very close up such as during the main menu or pressing ESC and seeing the hero even closer you do notice the lack of texture res since it gets pretty blurry.
(The actual character is understandable since you never really see it after a few hours in game when you've gotten some armor on, unless using vanishing dye to hide said armor.)
However the animations are very nice and make up for the slightly cruder model detail and the physics (And gore.) detail is pretty amazing.
(Separate deaths depending on weapon type and damage stuff like elemental attacks and various degrees of force and even outright gibbing in numerous ways to name a few things and then you have background animations and effects like swaying grass and fog/mist plus more.)

Yeah, it's a pretty fun game no matter what.
Though I think it's short-term - unless they come up with something interesting. Ladder games is something I've never found appealing in the slightest.

Problem is that once you have your gear and you can comfortably do Torment, there's nothing left. At least the RMAH made finding more items interesting.
Now, I don't see anything that would make me play after having gotten the 2-3 classes I like to a good state.

Play until you can do Torment 6?
If the keep the drop rates good, I could not care less if they bring AH and RMAH back in. But having as shitty drop rates as it was back when the auctions were still open.... horrible.
I played weeks without getting upgrades and I could only do MP 2-4. I played self found mostly and it was a nightmare.
Also if they would re-enable AH / RMAH they would have to remove everyones gold, items, gems... well everything. Too many people got billions by abusing bugs in the old AH.
Like someone posted a video on the D3 forums where he was showing... something, though what he was showing was not the interesting part. The interesting part was that he had something like 2 TRILLION gold.

And you actually fell for that moron editing his vid? (It was like 1 trillion btw not 2).
LOL
What kind of retard do you think would be sitting on 90.000e close to AH closure when gold was selling instantly for 4.5e / 50m ?
Yeah...
Also no one had billions only because they were abusing bugs. People abusing bugs (aka 0 bid exploit) were sending the gold to mule accounts selling off asap on RMAH before the accounts got closed (yes they were getting banned, but in waves so didn't help much with the situation).
Flipping/buying on RMAH = billions which involved no bugs (that's what i mean).
1 trillion could have been perfectly made legit if the guy did nothing else other than play the AH for 2 years. However, again, he wouldn't be stupid enough not to sell out unless he's some rich dubai prince or something.

Oh, they're not going back to AH now - that's pretty certain. That would be too embarassing for them
Once you get gear that's "enough" to get over the tough challenges, there's kinda no point anymore.
Well, unless they implement PvP in a smart way - but I'm not seeing that, since the gear is too hard to balance with the kind of stuff you can get.
So, the only way to expand it - that I can see - is the unfortunate eternal tier upgrades from WoW. That's not for me.
I love the ARPG genre because you can get the best gear in a reasonable amount of time - and it's not about eternally grinding.
It's not that I expect a permanent experience or anything - I just worry that there's no incentive beyond that first gear run.
I would prefer the level cap staying at 70 for a long time - and new gear being different rather than strictly more powerful.
Then some kind of meaningful challenge structure that's not just about re-using content and scaling hitpoints/damage.
Not quite sure what that would be - but the RMAH would give you an incentive to farm AFTER you're fully geared, and they could handle it a million ways.
But that's not going to happen now.

Hotfix for today;
The Bad!
Unique monsters now drop less items.
*Uniques were dropping far more loot than their difficulty would warrant.
Chest spawns have been thinned out across all acts of the game.
*Ideally chests become less common and something that players can’t flip games to farm. It is our goal to make them feel exciting and rewarding when you find them.
The Good!
The bonus legendary drop rate for rifts is being increased from 25% to 100%!
*This means that while in a rift your chance to find a legendary item from monsters, chests, elites, and everything else is double what it is outside of rifts. No this does not mean opening bounty bags in rifts is the new hotness. ;P
Kadala’s legendary drop rate has been significantly increased.
*Blood Shards are meant to be a compelling element of rift rewards and something players are excited to get.
Loot is an incredibly important aspect of Diablo games and we will continue to keep a very close eye on it. If more problems arise we will continue striving to address them. It isn’t our goal to take loot away from people, we just want to make sure they are having as much fun as possible while finding it and these changes all support that goal.

GG
WD / DH pet builds - Pet CHD cap removal was intended.

Wish granted.
This is indeed an intended change, and the amount of benefit provided to pets does not have a cap. Critical Hit Damage now scales for all pets, from Witch Doctors to Demon Hunters. This actually also includes stationary pets, such as Sentries and Hydras.
Apologies for the delay in communication on this one, but we always want to be sure the information we're providing is full and accurate, and it took me some time to check with all the appropriate folks that this was an actual change and not a bug. We'll be updating the patch notes to reflect this information as well. |

nice to see kadala's change, it was a little depressing to spend blood shards, i haven't got a single legendary from her.

wow this game got really boring really fast. Doing bounties and rifts can only last for so long, and the overall feel of the game is still the same in that its a very shallow experience with skills you can swap at any time. Dont really see the point on rolling another of the same class, ou can just save the gear needed and change as you play.
Hope they add more end game content soon...

Well, they'll be adding leagues (extremely likely) in next patch. And also some competition in the way of... some infinite rifts or something (I can't remember where I read about this... or I dreamt or hallucinated it).
But tbh... what would be really an endgame in a hack&slash action rpg? What was the end game in D2?
(I would be all for some massive battles that require all four players to be geared with insane gear, or even a special things which would allow more than four players;(mmo raid like things), but I don't think such will ever be implemented)
