The DS1/2 plot - you are the fucking guy who kills stuff and get rapped in the ass without lube. The lore and the universe are epic but there's no story following the actual gameplay, really. (besides the one I mentioned)
Very bad news men, my 25% voucher for this from GMG was for some account i never use, not the one with all the credits from GMG
And the current 20% voucher doesn't seem to work on this game
@Leaf - souls games have the most mature plot/story/lore (whatever you wanna call it) from all rpgs i`ve played, released in the last ~20 years. it just crushes shit like recent bioware games, both in content and in way its told to the player. its like comparing mature novel to a teenage-targeted comic book. the comic book is not necessary a bad thing obviously, when you take it as it is - simple pure fun/time-killer which doesnt require much effort from the reader. thing is, it just cant be compared to a mature book/novel/whatever.
in terms of maturity i`d compare it to planescape torment, but obviously its huuge difference in terms of how everything is told to the player. in 99% of rpgs youre basically overwhelmed with unncessary dialogues, journals, cutscenes etc. souls games dont give a fuck, they require using your brain, imagination, your own interpretation of given (or lack of) facts, and obtaining that information requires effort, its not shoved down your throat with another journal entry lol.
thing is, nowadays gamers either dont have time for that kind of stuff or are lazy as fuck/simple stupid. apparently, if youre not told whole shit in opening cutscene then there is no story/plot lol.
There's nothing mature about DS's plot. It's a typical totally weird (from western standpoint) japanese total fantasy. In order for something to be mature, it has to be fairly close to reality. Witcher is a mature RPG, DS isn't. It's dark, but not mature.
Also, repetition of something you've already beaten is not difficulty.

@paxsali - at last PA did something reasonable, have fun.
Banning you for continuing your stupid smiley spam would also be quite reasonable, but consider this a last warning.
fuck off with your warnings and your bullshit "smiley spam" already, now when i use any emotes you will call it smiley spam, youre ridiculous.

so its not a sequel but more of a spin off
from soft made demons souls but sony owns the IP, sony didnt believe in the franchise, from soft found another publisher and made 'spiritual successor', they couldnt name it demons souls II so they name it dark souls.
as for ds1 and ds2 there are some connections but nothing game-breaking - ie you can still play and enjoy ds2 without playing ds1, but you will get more of it if you did play previous game.
But yet http://darksouls.wikidot.com/patches is still the same char in both games. Demon Souls is as almost as much tied to Dark Souls as Dark Souls is tied to Dark Souls 2 (next to none).
I'd suppose that From Software is trying to have more sales by using the same name again, because setting the story so far into the future, that you basically have no more overlappings, just creates the justification to change the gameplay mechanics a bit.
It doesn't matter very much to me though, I would've played this game even if it were to be called Dragon Souls.

Oh remy you silly kid, just give me a reason and I'll gladly ban you, as I'd do with anybody else. But with banning you I'd do the whole forum a big favor.
But because you are slower than the rest, I'll repeat myself, just for you: If you have nothing meaningful to say except for a smiley, just keep it to yourself and don't pollute the threads outside the useless void or else I'll ban you.
Connect as you will, you can't conjure content out of thin air, no matter what amount of speculation and deduction you put in. You can get a vague outline of what's going on, but what I meant is that there isn't a proper narrative or plot. Even with every bits and pieces fleshed out and tied together with speculation you wouldn't come up with more than a couple of pages of prose if you had to narrate what's going on. Compare that to games like The Witcher or anything from BioWare (just examples) and you see what I mean.
Just a different way of storytelling. Show vs. Tell. Witcher et al do the latter, DS does the former. I find that quite refreshing. Though I wish it didn't have any NPC dialogue at all - the bits that were there were pretty dumb (or maybe poorly translated).
If, by mature, you mean obscure and opaque references that you can use to invent your own story if you wish - then sure.
I call that sort of thing weak shit.
As much as I think Bioware can't tell a mature or plausible tale to save their lives - I'd take a single Mass Effect over ten thousand Dark Souls "stories".
dark souls games arent meant to have the bioware kind in-your-face story, this way it doesnt feel like the whole story and game world revolve around your character, but you are simply part of it.
this is the reason why games like dark souls and shadow of the colossus are among the most atmospheric games ever made, putting in a direct story flat out told to you by cutscenes and other characters would seriously ruin the atmosphere and immersion, this is not the point.
the lack of music (aside from boss battles) also helps, in both of these games.
Again, I'd rather have that than the Dark Souls bullshit.
if you preffer saving kingdoms/galaxies with gay romance instead of atmospheric, complex, mature themed story that forces you to think, not only about putting it all together but also about your own interpretation and other loosely releated themes then why do you even post in this thread, clearly its not a game for you.
people complain about simple mechanics/stories and when they are challanged with complex ones they bitch about it, ie "ds1-2 has no story". souls games show all the bullshit of that 20-30 year old gamers attitude along with their complains about how all the games are for derps nowadays, and same derps cant handle anything more than being spoonfed (still they are complaining about it at the same time lol)

I agree that it's an atmospheric game - but that doesn't mean anything in terms of story.
Some people are capable and interested in inventing their own stories, and that's fine. If they're handed an atmospheric environment and some NPC spouting pointless drivel that only superficially makes sense in a "big picture" kind of way - they can invent their own story.
I think that's cool - and to each his own.
My own preference is a story that's either told linearly really, really well - sort of like Witcher 2, or a cohesive story that you're slowly "discovering" on your own - sort of like System Shock or Bioshock Infinite.
BioForge is one of my favorite stories as well.
I don't enjoy vague pointless bullshit myself, but I can't claim it's bad. It's great that some people enjoy that sort of thing.

If by complex and mature you mean deliberately obtuse and hollow - then yeah.
Dark Souls might as well be generated from random bits of story. But obviously, some people have a powerful imagination and they can tell themselves they've experienced something really profound.
From how I understood and from what I've read there's some bits and pieces available from this game (And the others.) but I don't think it has a very connected story or how to say, you just arrive at this location somehow (By dying?) become undead (However that works.) and have to survive.
(For gameplay reasons you don't go hollow like other undead, like some of the NPC's in the previous game depending on how you treated them.)

its not case of imagination, its just putting all the pieces together and interpretation of those, you put all the puzzles on your own and form your own conclusions, confront them with opinions of others or watch complex analysis on youtube. check the video i`ve posted above, minor spoilers tho.
i dont mind more direct story telling done right, but i`m kinda tired of all those archetypical form-party-save-the-world crap all over again, just in different settings. also mandatory (gay)sex scenes in rpgs nowadays are imo pathetic.

I've seen a complex analysis of Prometheus or even Avatar. As I said, people will believe anything.
It really can't change my perception of the game.
I've played both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls - and there's nothing there but the most vague of outlines. It's just bits and pieces of dark and obscure references.
I'm sure you can combine them and if you struggle a bit - you might come up with something that feels like a consistent plot.
Sadly, I've seen no reason to do so - as nothing about the story appealed to me at all.
I need interesting characters and compelling dialogue. I have no use for a few sparse sentences.
If that's good writing in your world, great, but to me it's weak shit.
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
