I am one of those who like Civ5 gameplay mechanics, so even a full Re-skinned Civ5 might please me.
But reading the article, it is clear they won't simply put extraterrestrial stuff in a Civ5 game without adapting exploration/research/diplomacy/...
Just give me a preorder link already !

i found civ5 to be rather entertaining (after an initial adaption phase), so i'm really looking forward to this (plus i'm from the amiga generatiion who played the original, so i am double excited)l.
Plus it's not EA or activision, so thats a huge plus lol
Hope not. Civ games have no business being near multiplayer
What? Alpha Centauri had multiplayer, it even had play-by-e-mail multiplayer! And I still enjoy Civ V's multiplayer with friends. I mostly play my single-player saves, but it's nice to know that when my friends are online we can play a few turns on our multiplayer map for a few hours, and that we can do it at our own pace.
I remember SMAC communities having someone set-up a save and a discussion thread, and forum members would act as one of the leaders, telling the save owner what he should do next, and he would come back to report the results. People WANTED multiplayer any way they could get it.
I have honestly no idea what you're talking about.
It is important to note that even though this has the Civilization name, it will probably be mediocre because of the Assassin's Creed syndrome. Sometimes you need to re-invent yourself, come up with new ideas to stay fresh, and we don't need more of the same Civ. For that we have Civ 5 and every game prior to that.

after civ 5 , civilization name means very little and i dont see how this game gonna be something different, civ 5 is so linear that its boring to play more than once.. yay for 25 tech

Linear???
I've played more than 400 hours of Civ V, and never once had the same game. I've won handsomely, won by the skin of my teeth, got beat narrowly, and had my ass handed to me on a plate a few times, all different victories and losses, different locations, different tactics, each its own different game.
Will there be aliens to fight though? Hopefully not other humans will suddenly for some weird reason show up on the same new planet.
i hope for a mysterious alien civilization with a parallel agenda
i hope for some -at least- diplo mechanics as the ones from Alpha Centaury
the factions from Alpha Centaury was a great idea. maybe the same but with a more polish lines.
any news about the civilizations to play? i doubt they will be the same as in regular civ games.
