Community of YesMen that *applauded* when RSI announced they were charging for character slots, so don't expect RSI to pay any attention to anything negative or critical you have to say - and do expect the community to jeer and deride you.

~edit~

Dear god am I bitter lately or what? Facepalm

I know it is like that, but I'd like to push people to post their ideas anyway. Even if it's not heard at least it has been said. But yeah for me the biggest danger for this game will always be it's community.

I'll enjoy it in the end, just not sure that they'll maximize my enjoyment by going with the 'new' crowd.

I want challenging game that will make me thing what, when and how to do in order to win. You will still be able to do "cool" moves. Tho these moves will bore me much faster than good concept and gameplay. And real life jet pilots experience G-Force and they can do "cool" moves.

@MORPHINEUS

Yeah, sadly it seems the target is the "YEAHBRO!!!!!" that cheered for the helmet. Fluff, basically, though the flight model did look good - so there's that. I like how you can enable/disable newtonian style movement on the fly (pun intended Razz) as that appeals to both arcadey/casual pilots and those that want pure control and skill-based flying.

@Kaltern

Link us when you're done? This should be fun Very Happy

@PredOborG

We've already covered this, if a ship is capable of galactic flight then surely they have dampeners of some kind, otherwise the travel would kill the pilot. So "g-force" in a starship makes little to no sense except as "fluff" for the YEAHBRO crowd. Why would you WANT the risk of black out when you're playing? It's not realism for spacecraft unlike jets, and just seems unnecessary to me.

As for skill-based play and now "I've got the better ship", didn't they say targeting plays an integral part of the game? Being able to target specific parts of the ship, being able to utilise newtonian physics, etc. That's what I assume would be skill-based and not some artificial black/red out.

Greetings. I am a founding backer of the game, way back when the original kickstarter began.

I have never posted on the forum (that I can remember), instead just watching and learning about the game and development.

After the PAX reveal, I feel I should now air some of my own opinions.

1. The PAX reveal showed me that the DFM is, of course, incomplete. It also showed that after nearly 2 years of development, the hanger and dogfighting modules are all that is available for the game, and a small number of assets. This is not very encouraging, especially given that by the teams own admission, they were not ready with the DFM 5 days before the event. Given the amount of time that has already passed, I would have expected this to have been completed many months ago.

2. The addition of g-force effects also concerns me. G-force would be felt if there is sudden acceleration or deceleration to the human body, which, if the technology used for future spacecraft design was as expected, would include inertial dampeners. These would be essential for any form of 'fast' space travel, as otherwise humans would become stains on the nearest bulkhead every time a ship went into whatever form of FTL was used. Inertial dampeners would therefore eliminate any form of g-force from a pilot; they would instead simply see space moving around them, rather than them moving through space. No space sim that I am personally aware of has ever incorporated any form of G-Force, and I believe it to be a totally unnecessary addition here.

3. Given the amount of money already raised, and the length of time passed since the inception of this 'project', I am personally concerned about the amount of 'extraneous stuff' that is surrounding the game, but very little actual proof of development. Sure, this website is very nice, and the stretch goals that seem to be endlessly promised are great. However, when you consider games such as Elite, which started off quite slowly, but has gained momentum recently, and have shown plenty of gameplay clips, and the woeful lack of anything to do with the 'other' aspects of THIS game, I wonder exactly where all that money is really going. Where is the FPS development? Where are all these wonderful starsystems being promised? When will we see some concrete evidence of Squadron 42 development?

Overall, I want this game to be the most successful game ever produced. I want the best starship combat game possible. However, I also - as a paying backer - want to see some proper proof of development, and actual gameplay, rather than clips of the chairman sitting with his Oculus Rift on his face playing something we can't actually see. It's not enough to promise things - it's been 2 years (there was a demo created before the original Kickstarter began, so development of this game started before then) - I want to see some proper evidence that this game is going to be created and not just promised.

Flameproof suit at the ready.

Yeah, that was very well written and reasoned. Well played Kaltern - much appreciated and I absolutely agree Smile All I'm left wondering about now is how the economy is going to work, whether RSI/CIG will give up on the enormous income potential by adequately tweaking the game for in-game earning or whether they'll just keep focusing on cash-shop sales. Well, that and I still have my doubts about the supposed "run your own server" stuff, I have a (wholly negative, I know Sad) fear that near the end of development we'll start hearing about limitations and cutbacks to private servers.

Yup. Loving the hostile douchebag at the start and then the full of excuses replies. There's a shocker Rolling Eyes Give it time mate, it'll get much worse before the day is out grinhurt Typical anti-criticism fanboy bullshit circlejerk nonsense going on, no matter what point you raise about ANY facet of the development; the fanboys will tear you down and make excuses for every single part of it. YesMan community where Roberts can do no wrong and the game is flawless.

And people wonder why we don't go and post our opinions on that place? Hah!

I just clicked that link, and jesus christ the replies. o.O

It's like they have zero doubt in their minds that the game will be anything other than a complete success, and any criticism is unfounded.

I haven't backed the game so obviously I don't get a say in the matter, but it's hard not to look at the game at it's current state and not see certain issues.

And that's as mildy as I can put it.

I'm rooting for this game, it has incredible potential, it can finally fill the gap in my soul left by a lack of a Freelancer sequel. But that doesn't mean it makes the game impervious to criticism.

Yeah, definitely good news to hear that. Options hurt nobody and it's nice to know that if people want "realism" (again, the existence of inertial dampeners is more realistic than not, but oh well) then they can enable the BlackOutElitistMode® and be happy - while those of us that don't want to blackout whenever we bank, can disable it \o/

So by turning it off, the ship keeps itself within the thresholds of human tolerance? Is that it?

It's the other way around i think. By default, the safety settings on the ships flightsystems will be on and they will put limits on stuff like speed and so on (while dogfighting) so you won't black out (etc).

You can turn that safety off though so that you can perform more extreme moves and get an advantage over your opponent(s).

It's all dog & pony show with these people, and very little actual development. I am seriously getting DNF/38 studios/insert some vaporware vibes from them.

I have faith in Kickstarter projects that have direction and focus, like Eternity, Kingdom Come, etc.

For me Star Citizen seems to still be 95% raising money only to squander it by doing anything but actually developing a game, and 5% working on their game. Also with every new goal they are going to add it just adds to feature creep, with a game that is already promising the world. Each day i get more sure that this project will simply crash and burn.

They don't seem to take it very seriously at all, either. That's probably the most alarming part.

I'm cutting them some slack. They're treading new ground, in terms of community interaction as well as early build transparency, and nobody has ever raised as much cash from a community of gamers before so there's certainly no pre-defined business model nor booklet on how to handle PR.

Feature creep is already a problem, as is trying to please everyone by trying to cater to a spectrum of playstyles.

This is *exactly* why I have so much fear, doubt and negativity over the game and why it's been growing over the last year. The community. Since CIG/RSI are paying such close attention to what the community wants, and the community are just a bunch of arrogant, toxic and hateful scumbags, what hope does that leave for the game? It's going to be a microtransaction riddled, griefer infested, elitist shitbag of an MMO because that's exactly what the "community" wants - and anyone that doesn't want that just gets ripped apart.

There's a ton of people over there, generalizing them all because of the dominant vocal minority isn't what I'd do. It doesn't have to mean the in-game community will be bad once there's an actual game to play.

Well firstly, I posted that, and then I had to leave for a while. Just came back in.

Wow. I mean, wow.

Firstly Pixie, you have my admiration and respect. You did indeed take one for the team.
Secondly.. I say again, Wow. Robert's dick must be covered in many raw areas by now, with the amount of sucking that is taking place. If the development team are judging their success by the response of their fanbase.... then they are going to fail epically.

I was going to make a reply to the replies to my original post... but that would be as pointless as telling a blind man to look over there.

At least there is some sort of option for the g-force thing... still makes no real sense though.
