If they really wanted to, they could have made a GAME that would fit on those 3 DL-DVDs they used, but no, there is ~6GB game data and ~30GB prerendered video (PS3). The X360 videos are compress with bink@576p so it ended up being 18GB (5.9 ; 5.8 ; 6.6).

You mean even more prerendered cutscenes?
I mean game data in FF13 can easily fit on 1 DVD, the rest are just videos which only waste your time | not those but actual gameplay , new world etc..
guess i am forced to dig up that link to that article that had those pictures
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/13/square-enix-cut-a-games-worth-of-content-from-final-fantasy-xii/
and then
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/15/yoshinori-kitase-cut-final-fantasy-xiii-content-will-not-return/ [full article name "Yoshinori Kitase: Cut Final Fantasy XIII content will not return as DLC"]
so we/they knew XIII-2 will be made

Quote: | It turns out there once were many more labyrinthine paths and dungeons in Final Fantasy XIII, but they got cut. An interview (in Japanese) over at FF-Reunion with art director Isamu Kamikokuryou ("No you!" to his friends) has him saying that the team removed enough extra locations from the title to make up a whole other game entirely.
|
Every decent developer cuts and edits stuff before releasing the game. If they removed content that only means it was complete crap OR (like you said) they knew they are going to make sequel and so they'll just use that content in FF13-2 later. There are games like Assassin's Creed or Fallout with huge open worlds that fit on Xbox DVD i don't see why 6,8 gb is not enough to hold a few more corridors or caves in FF13.

Fuck this game is pissing me the fuck off. 20 hours into it and suddenly im facing some shit boss on a timer which apparently is fucking hard if you don't have haste for saszhsdjksd something shitty (japanese can't for the fucking life of them make coherent english names). And i didn't even know about haste until now, so i can't even get the points to upgrade it
/rant over.. FUCK |
pussy
go play lightning returns and bear with all the incredibly retarded design choices that make the game an absolute fucking chore to play every damn second of it, and still go and do all the sidequests and finish with the good ending.
yes i did it, and i fucking hate myself for it
to sum it up,
how would you like to not be able to level up by fighting enemies in an rpg, while having to do everything on a fucking time limit, including beating some tough bosses?
oh yes and dont forget that most quests can only be triggered during a specific time of day, so have fun running from one side of the world to another and back constantly.
after finishing lightning returns i played dark souls 2, and it felt like the most chilled out game ever in comparison, i didnt have to constantly think about thousand different things like quest giver locations, quest timings, all while being under pressure of a ticking clock. the game is a 50 hours long headache or micromanagement.

Couldn't you use a save editor and give her 5000 hours left on the timer? |
to be honest after the initial 10 hours i just followed a faq and finished most of the stuff in around half the time, so the time limit wasnt a problem that way, it was still a total mind-rape though having to keep in mind so many different things.
without a faq, good luck managing even half of it, many of these quests and quest givers are so obscure that it would require you checking every single corner of the world 3 times every single day, and even then its not likely that you would manage to finish all the quests.
some quests are triggered during a specific time of day, some quests only during a specific day, some quests during a specific time of a specific day only after finishing specific quest #7 and #35...
not to forget, some quests can only be triggered by failing others, meaning you have to replay the game atleast once to truly finish everything.
you basically have to read through the whole faq and cross-reference the shit out of everything.

Fuck that. What terrible game design :\ I never read FAQs when playing an initial run but if a game is so obtusely designed that it's more confusing and irritating to play, then to hell with it.

i never use faqs for initial playthroughs, but in this case using the faq didnt make it easier but simply provided a different kind of challenge.
it made the game even more headache-inducing, but saving you half the time atleast.

Fuck it, I'll just trainer the damned thing and lock the timer - that's what I wanted in the first place anyhow. Nothing ruins my enjoyment of a game more than artificial timers and restrictions, especially in an RPG for crying out loud. I like to explore and to take things in, not be forced to run from one corner of the game to the other, ignoring everything along the way because of some nonsense timer.
