The Amazing Spiderman 2 - CGI 10/10, movie 5/10 - too dramatic and too long...

Yep, RoboCop 5/10
First half was actually better - but the last half was bad, and the ending downright awful.

Sums up my feelings exactly, and that hand it oozes PG at all costs though.

Prometheshit 1/10
Wifey and I are doing an "Alien Saga Rewatch" and we finally got around to this.... abomination. Awful, awful film without a single redeeming quality save the imagery. It's even worse on rewatch, when the "splendour" of the visuals has worn off; lousy characters, abysmal story, terrible pacing and no cohesion whatsoever.

Yet the visuals in Prometheus are so well done (it was one of the few 3D movies that were done well imo), you cant really believe your eyes when you have to watch the crappy plot unfold through the characters bad acting.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Visually, it was definitely strong - but it wasn't "magical" like the early Ridley Scott movies. He's lost pretty much everything he once had, though he can still make pointless movies in his sleep.

Headhunters (Hodejegerne) 7/10
Good movie but the tone is sometimes a bit confusing, it appears to shift a lot between heist movie/dark comedy/ action. But I liked it overall.

Another slaver movie, not bad. Think it's Dutch.

This movie was fucking awesome |
I loved it too, reminded me of 12 angry men a bit. does anyone have similar movies to recommend? |
The classic 12 Angry Men, the remake of 90's or the Russian (12)? Imo the Russian 12 is the most interesting one and ,I dare to say, better than the classic (notice though that it's a loose remake).

Philomena - 8/10
Charming and funny, yet disheartening movie, a strange potpourri of emotions which works perfectly thanks to the really good actors and direction. A pleasant surprise

Pompeii - 0/10
A film I was greatly anticipating for years, having read Robert Harris' excellent novel of the same name. Sadly, instead of filming an adaptation of that, we get this teen-friendly drivel with gladiators, terrible CGI, Adebisi playing the same role he always plays and the utter charisma-bypass of Shit Harrington.
I'm so glad this bombed at the box office. Hopefully now Paul "not the good one" Anderson will be banned from Hollywood and hopefully executed for crimes against cinema.

Robocop 6.5/10
I really wanted to hate this, to dislike something that took a beloved film and warped and twisted it into something terrible... but it didn't, it isn't and I don't. This was surprisingly quite enjoyable and you could tell that the writers, the directors and even the cast had a lot of love for the original and thus wanted to do honour to it. It's not a great film and it's certainly not as good as the original, but it was still good enough and I did enjoy it
The "origin" part of the story went on for too long, I feel, which left very little time for.. well... Robocop'ing around. Far less action, far less plot, far less of Robocop than the original film, but you can tell they're setting this up as a franchise reboot and they're already talking about the sequel. Thankfully the "human hand!" and "it's a powerful love story" bullshit of the prerelease info was very understated in the final film and in the end it was very entertaining, if a little meandering. No real enemy or villain to speak of, the "Clarence Bodicker" style antagonist was a non-issue and passed without fanfare -- and the same goes for "Dick Jones" esque CEO. He wasn't as much a villain as just some corporate monkey looking to make more profit.
Hopefully the sequel, if one comes, can bring some real meat to the table. More violence, more satire, more RoboCop, less EmoCop -- and hey, at least
Spoiler: |
Silver-blue Robo comes back at the end
|

Oh and Samuel L Jackson's "Novak" was hilarious and awesome I also agree with some comments online about Keaton and Oldman "saving" the film .. they really did.
