This game has a ton of DLC, plus a ton of those UPlay rewards.
(Item packs and extra skins mostly, also a separate quest - http://www.gamersgate.co.uk/DLC-COLDLC1/child-of-light-golem-pack )

From what little I tried so far it's a simple game but it's fun and it looks fantastic. Smile
(Reached the first boss, got killed since I had mostly used distraction to evade combat so I guess I need to go back and grind a bit.)

EDIT: Screens.

Not only is the experience a good idea to get levels, but you really need to practice the combat, and learn to use the Cast window to your advantage, etc.

You'll need that later. Very Happy

Besides, don't skip the combat, it is excellent. Smile

Combat is very easy till the first boss (playing on Hard difficulty) but it kicks into gear just after, got killed by a couple of random encounters already.

The combat mechanics are quite interesting, basically any enemy attack can interrupt your move, so chosing to attack when an enemy is about to attack you is almost always pointless. You have to use the "defent" action more often than you'd think and chose wisely which enemy to slow using the firefly, otherwise even random encounters of 3 (even basic) enemies at once can kick your ass.

Yeah it's a lot like Grandia i think the the second game is exactly like this, overworld (2D, jumping and so on) and the story (Main char also dies at the intro of the game for example) seem to be Valkyrie profile 1 inspired.

Grandia? And the second one at that, I played it on PC years ago (Have the disc somewhere, those other ones weren't released on PC.) but maybe you're right, I'll have to look up how the game looked.

EDIT: Heh it hasn't aged as badly as I thought it would.
http://www.ag.ru/games/grandia-2/screenshots/17792
(I remember that clump too, slightly.)

EDIT: Duh you meant the combat system, ha ha whoops.

Yep this and Skies of Arcadia where my favorite jrpgs at that time , btw i looked it up and apparently the devs themself said that they used the grandia IIs combat system (actually they said they where inspired by it but well it's exactly the same).
Have to post the Amano image again:

the art of the game is heavily influenced by his style.

Absolutely beautiful game and so fun to play too! Basic (j)RPG features, but really well put together - and I'm happy to report that the "slow combat" seems to have only been for demonstration purposes, as the combat is lightning quick \o/

How long is this supposed to be and how much of an RPG is it? I might buy it since it seems very creative.

Experience points, multiple paths, hidden secrets, a rather extensive - if basic - skill grid and some collectible crafting items that can be applied to your gear for small bonuses to stats/ability, but can be combined with other items to increase their power. Oh and not to mention multiple party members and ACT-bar based combat.

Yeah I second this, the game is amazing! Combat system is fun too and definitely not "slow".

I'm only 3 hours in but having a blast. I do suggest going on Hard, as fights (especially boss encounters) then seem challenging, but not overly difficult still.

Also I recommend not getting ambushed in random encounters, since things can get ugly very quickly.

Also, someone drew a lien of comparison to Aquaria. Indeed, I had a deja vu. I loved Aquaria :P

Yes, we know thanks... hence the "combat is lightning quick" part Wink This was referring to the previous videos where combat was slow.

Of course! The RLD release works perfectly, the 3DM one crashes when reading saves.

What an absolute breath of fresh air this game is. Bags of atmosphere, jRPG-ish, great looking graphics and plays great with the 360 gamepad.

DLCs are shit anyway, most of them just cheats/boost packs or skins.

The only interesting one looks like a nod to Shale DLC for DA:O - golem companion.

Game is awesome as hell!! I love these kind of game! Turn off all lights in the house, put the music to the max, get absorbed in the game!

Love it!!! I tought combat would be kinda slow and dull, but there is a lot of strategy involved and it's kinda awesome!
