Make a list of your favorite games that in your opinion achieve excellence in their aesthetic presentation. Titles that combine a beautiful or profound story with a unique or beautiful visual or musical aesthetic.
I'm looking mostly for art games, but if there are some AA Titles that fit the description, post them here as well.
My choices:
Limbo
Brothers: A tale of Two Sons
Bioshock
Bioshock Infinite
Child of Light
Bastion
Osmos
World of Goo
Remember Me
Portal
Portal 2
Dear Esther
Amnesia - The Dark Descent
Condemned - Criminal Origins
Antichamber
The Swapper
Machinarium
Gone Home
Braid
Cryostasis
The Bridge
Deadlight

A gorgeous game. Too bad the story and gameplay were just ok.
I think the Stalker series has great visual presentation. It's not going for an artistic angle but it's still got great atmosphere.

In recent history, I think Remember Me beats the rest of the competition.
I really fancied the Metro games as well, because they were technically really good looking, while at the same time having great aesthetic direction.
Thinking back to DXHR now, the game is below average technically, but the attentiont to detail was great, still one of the best aesthetic designs I have played. I listened to all the developer logs, and to me itseemed, like they put a lot of effort in this.
Portal 2 was a pleasure to play when it comes to all senses. Sound design was a great part of that, and I fancied that a lot.
Bioshock games never did anything for me, I found those games all to be tryhards. Like oscar-bait movies. Very nice in a superficial way, but scratch the surface, and there's no depth behind its themes (don't confuse themes with story).

I liked Alan Wake to some extent, but in other parts it just seemed to cheesy.

i wouldn't say bioshock was beautiful, unreal engine looks bad to my eyes. I think Borderlands has a fantastic art direction
