Yo.

So im bored again, even with all the new games out im all itchy. Played through B&W2, BIA, AOE3 and ive been playing Morrowind again but now im burned out on those games. So i started playing a little Frontier: Elite II (free to download now btw, clicky) and i was wondering if there are any similar new games out? Non-online trade/pirate-space-sim that is Smile

I think that most modern games are just mindless visuals.. Look great but absolutely mindless. Deus Ex, where are you..

Hm ok so now i beat freelancer in singleplayer and ive been playing a couple of hours worth of multiplayer with some mods. Got kinda boring after you discovered the best traderoutes and drove around in a battleship half the size of some planets.

Got X2 now though, i cant understand how i missed the release of this. Anyhow i've just started it and well.. it seems a bit daft. And from reviews and forums i understand that the learning curve is quite steep and the first couple of hours wont be filled with action. But i kind of want to get a little headstart since X3 is being released soon so my question (to the ones who has played X2). Is it worth it? Does it get fun etc?

Ah yeah, BC3000 rocked back in the day. But isnt that like ten years old now? Very Happy

Played Tachyon as well, gotta love Bruce Smile

Gonna try to give X2 an honest shot even though i hate that you cant remap the keys and i dont really enjoy the combatsystem.

well, the combatsystem in x2 sucked, so no surprise there. But it IS a cool game anyway Wink, build a ton of huge bases, run a ton of huge ships.

The updates on their web page is almost a must have though, the extra small scripts and such makes the game much more enjoyable.

You might want to try "Space Rangers"
Can't comment about it my self but there is a a very favorable review (9/10) here:
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=61014
And it looks like it could hit your crave for freeform space exploration/travel/trade game.

My favorite thing about X2 was the built-in multimonitor support it had. Being able to send other camera views to the second display was great. Really wish more games would make use of that...

Looks good, but.. No crack available? I only found a cracked version of Evochron (ie Evochron Alliance's predecessor). Are the two games much different from each other in terms of gameplay, graphics etc?

Theres a good space exploration game called EV: Nova, it was a Mac game that they finally decided to port over, heres the link to it

http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/evn/

The cool thing is all the mods they made for it, when you buy the latest game you can convert it with mods too all their previous games and play through them as well.

The ones I mentioned for converting EVN to EV Classic and EV override are under the newest essentials window, click view more, and they are near the bottom. I would check out all those essential mods as well, mostly fixes for storyline issues.

As for other mods, click view more on highest ranked mods and it will give you a short description of all of them. I havnt played it in months so I cant say whats good now, but they give a good idea of what to expect under that view more menu.

Also theres a program that converts the mac mods to windows files, called convert.exe, not sure if it comes with the game because I couldnt find it on the site, but i have it in my EV:Nova directory so I assume it does.

I was so damn busy with exams in school that I didn't notice that the Epic: Middle States mod for I-War2 had been released.

I-War 2 is already the space game with the purdiest backgrounds and best controls (Newtonian) but with these new features it will truly rock (I hope... I'm typing while downloading Razz)!

---
Features

* A new star cluster with well developed background The Middle States.

* Economic simulation and new occupation of Merchant Trader.

* Reputation adjusted by player actions such as Piracy.

* Governments protect innocent shipping and actively pursue pirates.

* Pirates haunt Lagrange points and prey on merchant shipping.

* Non Player ships sell equipment, fence cargo and will work as wingmen.

* A totally new Environmental Music system for added SciFi realism.

* Modded Flux engine provides excellent graphics and dramatic lighting.

* Player wingmen are supported. They burn fuel and demand pay.

* Save Nearly Anywhere better supports a free roaming play style.
