How big is the risk of being banned from steam for buying a steam gift from one of those shady cd-key websites?
I missed the KSP deal on humble a few days ago and the seemingly only way to get it now without paying full price is buying a steam gift but apparently they can ban you for that.

I personally don't think it's worth it. How much are you willing to spend? A quick Steamtrade search shows it's available for 5 keys (about £7.50).

$15 at most. I don't have steam guard enabled so I can't really trade for it using that method though.

Unless it is fraudulently purchased gift or you start to blab about the gift to steam support - why would they ban you?

Yep, same here. They are refunding.
My card I used to pay for glitched AC4 wasn't accepted for some reason now.
SUDDENLY.
We all know why, though. They will just refund all orders and that's all.
