That's an "alternate take" of the review, GameSpot gave DS2 a 9/10.

For this review, Justin spent 25 hours in the game, killed five bosses, reached level 65, and lit too many bonfires.

25 hours for 5 bosses Reaction

EDIT: hilarious "rewiew"

I was permanently at half health (a negative punishment for dying too often) and never found a place to get rid of the few thousand souls I'd racked up between deaths. I tried burning human effigies at bonfires to restore my humanity and get my health back, but it didn't seem to have any effect.

Quote:
I expected that I'd be safe and able to recover while hiding behind my shield. Not only does defending make stamina refill more slowly, you also lose stamina when deflecting incoming blows. That's not a problem in itself, but it would've been more satisfying to have those facts clearly laid out instead of trying to figure out why I was still getting slaughtered by enemies despite having a sturdy shield to defend myself.

Quote:
My compromise, since the armor didn't seem to have much effect at protecting me anyway, was to run around naked and carry a bigger sword until I earned enough points to level up. It didn't do much more damage than my other weapons, but even those few extra points in damage could mean the difference between life and death against a boss.

It works fine, uses LIVE still however but I don't think they've banned anyone for using (just) that utility, perhaps the FPS uncap option is best left alone however as per the ini file comments on how it's implemented.

EDIT: Was answered.

I'm really hoping they'll do something with Dark Souls 1 once GFWL retires.

I said it here before, that I preferred offline to online in Dark Souls 1, but that was not the case for Dark Souls 2. While DkS2 became significantly easier online due to helpful messages (as well as not-so-helpful) or jolly cooperation, I didn't give a shit, because at the same time it became even more addicting and fun to play that way.

So having this experience made me wonder whether same wouldn't be true if there wasn't that crappy GFWL hassles I had when playing Dark Souls 1. Summoning friends in Dark Souls 1 was nigh on impossible. Login problems when starting game, etc.

If they remedied that by switching over to Steamworks and dedicated server (or whatever they use for Dark souls 2) would be great. And while they'd be at that, implement Dsfixes =right into the game...Yeah naive wishful thinking.

it really comes down to personal view.
i find dks1 the toughest of the 3 games, some people swear that demons souls is the toughest while i found it piss easy on my 2nd run after playing dks1, and some people feel that dks2 is the toughest since the beginning is harder, though it gets easier later on as you get used to the gameplay and become more careful.

DS2 is probably harder overall, although DS1 has some harder bosses than anything in DS2.

DS2 has the better multiplayer (MUCH better), the fighting mechanics in DS1 are better. Also the boss fights have more variation. In DS2 it's almost always the same.

DS2 is harder for a more or less pure sorcerer early-midgame because they nerfed magic and the way it scales with intellect too much Very Happy

Posted this on the Deals thread, but might catch more people for whom it's a relevant warning here:

Quote:
Well shit I've just had my first real problem with Steam. where they have deactivated my Dark Souls 2 CD key 10 days after I bought it

I got it from simplycdkeys so it shouldn't be a problem getting another one (hopefully) but I'm pretty pissed that Steam thinks it's OK to deny me access to something I bought legally while the two companies involved sort their shit out - or more to the point make me do it for them.

Oh and before anyone says simplycdkeys is a shifty key site they are part of simply games who are a well known and fairly big UK retailer, which is where I'm from too, so that isn't the issue and my account has almost 300 games that have all been bought from Steam, simplycdkey, retail and greenmangaming so there is nothing out of place with that either.

Anyone had anything like this happen before? My main concern is losing the build I spent 19 hours on over the last 10 days putting together.

Here's the message I got btw: "Your recent Product code activation has been revoked due to a problem processing payment for this item. The games associated with this product code can no longer be played as a result. This could be due a problem with the payment methods you used to acquire this item from a third-party seller; or a problem with how the third-party seller acquired the Product code. Assholes! Sad

Paid via PayPal who I called last night and they confirmed payment completed fine.

Meanwhile my 15€ ru key still works without a problem anyway this happens all the time the reseller buys the keys in bulks from someone and there are some keys bought with stolen credit cards or paypal accounts in it if they are not shaddy they will give you another key, it's a risk you always have with unauthorized key reseller so deal with it or don't buy from them.

the framerate in dks1 pc is locked to 30 and 15 fps (and 0 if your pc cant handle 15 Cool Face),
the moment the framerate drops slightly below 30, it locks to 15, so lower some settings in the fix and make sure you never go below 30.
