I understand SP gameplay is restricted to skirmish scenarios, but apparently there's lots of them and they're very good.

Wot I Think: Men Of War: Assault Squad 2

Cheers, that clarifies everything^^

Quote:
The reason the solo player is moderately well catered for is that the game has a huge stack of scripted skirmish missions, which can be played by you alone, or with friends. As far as I can tell, Assault Squad 2 incorporates everything from the previous game, too, making it quite the truckload of content. The new missions are as strong as anything in the previous games, and sensibly err on the side of huge battlefield brawls, with plenty of armour, although there is some less intense variety in the mix.

The SP missions are just like those from other MOW games. There's no real story, just missions to play with different countries

But there is some variety. For example the american third mission is a "behind enemy lines"
scenario.

The problem with assault squad 1 was that all the missions were identical. The same map points on all the same maps.

Only one extra map they released which was a defend map for each was different.

I wouldn't call these good though. They seem terribly unbalanced.

In this behind enemy lines scenario, you have like 5 guys and have to take out heavy tanks...

and deal with enemies that seem to have 100% psychic vision. There are some gun emplacements you need to take out.. which basically kill a guy in one shot. It's impossible to sneak up on them, and even getting a sniper in a position to hit them is impossible as they are instantly aware of the position of all your guys, so the moment you get angle setup to shoot at the operators, they spin and fire on you. The main objective of the map is to kill an officer in the middle of several heavy tanks and you should try to do it with no reinforcements. 5 guys only (as a secondary objective)

At one point they mentioned "An officer is coming, set up an ambush of your choice!" of course they tell you nothing about the route he's coming, but sure yeah with 5 guys I'll set up an ambush just all over the map. Thanks for the heads up.

The one before it, it suggests you repair some heavy tank out on the field. It would indicate that you have time to do so before the enemy comes. Not at all. The tank is so heavily damaged, it'll take you nearly two waves to get it repaired. You basically have to spend the entire time focused on that area, rather than defending your base because the enemies roll in there right away. So if you want that tank you send all the extra units there to guard it while you repair it, and it'll often get tracks repeatedly blown off, so it was about wave 6 of 8 before I could even think about driving the thing away.

Oh, and the leftover bugs from the first game. Yeah, really makes me regret grabbing this. There shouldn't have been a single bug leftover from the first before this was released.

Iron Fist is out.

Quote:

Key features:

Replays of your multiplayer matches and the ability to save, load and share them with others on Steam Workshop
3rd person direct control feature for singleplayer scenarios
5 new singleplayer skirmishes in which you fight as a veteran tank crew via the new 3rd person controls

Additionally as per the above quote by Prudislav the game was updated with a few enhancements.

Quote:

Free updates:

DirectX 10.1 support
Multiplayer spectator slots
Unit veterancy
Auto ammo re-supply
many more.

("many more." is a bit vague but I guess it's various "smaller" tweaks and minor bugfixes.)

EDIT: Guess this now means that there's at least two confirmed games using DirectX 10.1, would have been three but Ubisoft removed support for it in Assassins Creed 1 in a post-release patch. Razz
(And the Frostbite engine since Battlefield 3 is the one engine that I know of that supports D3D11.1 but as with D3D10.1 there might be some other titles or game engines using it as well.)

Yeah, the game is pretty cheap with that kind of stuff. You need to be fast, as they do build up over time. But smart about it. The biggest thing is the ammo. You can't really turtle because they have unlimited ammo, and you don't.

We really need a new proper Men of War game, a story based one.
