The release version of Rage also looked like shit while running like a dog, it took a lot of patches and tweaking until that ran properly.

No you won't Razz I've got a pair of 570s (nVidia SLi Razz) but only one of them works regardless of profile or inspector settings. I haven't tried forcing via nVCP yet but that has very poor results most of the time, so meh.

sabin1981 wrote:
I haven't had to play on "medium" for years and given that this is the same engine as RAGE, something is seriously messed up somewhere, although granted without SLi this is effectively just running on a single GTX570. SLi doesn't work, the nV profile has SLi compatibility bits but specifically locks to a single card - even using nVidiaInspector to force multi-GPU and AFR2 doesn't do jack shit. The fact that id, the supposed fathers of fucking 3D technology, don't have an engine capable of, or optimised for, multiple GPUs is nothing less than shocking.

I will say one thing; the gunplay is sweet though! Definitely has that RAGE feel (shocker right?) and dual-wielding assault rifles is delicious!

You don't really need them other than learning some of the controls like that sliding move but I'd recommend turning them off after finishing the tutorial level / prologue level in any game. Smile

For this game the journal will usually cover other details such as firing modes (C on keyboard by default, also uses pistol silencer when found and you can flip the dagger/daggers this way whatever purpose that serves.) and other info (Character bio unlocks, found treasures, objectives and so on.) but the controls might be good to get some tips about for the first level or so anyways.

I had that problem and it was FRAPs causing it, closing FRAPS fixed the problem and I could still use Afterburner.

From what I read the recent 337.xx drivers added a profile but that profile instructs the GPU to use single mode instead of SLI, I can't explain it very well but I guess it would be easy to use Inspector and check the actual profile config.
(Which from what I read is also exactly what happened to Rage so maybe IDTech isn't very multi-GPU friendly?)

Correct, I posted this a few pages back but people seem to like debating it (I don't mean you, I'm just confirming what you're saying)...simply installing the drivers and checking the profile in Inspector clearly shows it has the same settings as the Rage profile, which is to force single GPU mode.

I guess since people want specifics (all 3 are the same in the Rage "SLI Profile"):
SLI compatibility: 0x00000004
predefined: SLI_PREDEFINED_GPU_COUNT_ONE
predefined forced: SLI_PREDEFINED_MODE_FORCE_SINGLE

Try closing FRAPS, or Afterburner, or any other OSD apps.

Close both, the game bugs out if you have multiple instances of it running although it should prompt if you want to kill one of them when it happens (Which leads to the blue Quake 3 console debug message screen.)

Also ensure you have the runtimes installed meaning the latest VisualC++ redists, DirectX (Though it hasn't been updated since 2010, plus this uses OpenGL) and PhysX (Uses CUDA so you need those drivers.)

Of course the required version for each of those should be bundled with the game but there might be newer versions available for download.

Other than that other OSD's or programs might conflict but Afterburner works fine here though I have a lot of it disabled.

Unsure if you need a specific display driver, someone said Catalyst 14.4 (Beta or WHQL) was needed for AMD so maybe you do need a 330.xx or later branch from Nvidia?

Requires OpenGL 3.x compatibility but that shouldn't be a issue, 500 series and above for Nvidia (Maybe earlier models as well.) and the 4000 series and up from AMD I believe.

Oh and the cutscenes are Bik (Version 1, not the new BIK2 format.) so maybe a codec conflict prevents them from playing?
(Shouldn't happen that often with modern codecs however but still something to check.)

EDIT: Also if it incorrectly generated some settings file you might want to purge that first.

C:\Users\*USERNAME*\Saved Games\MachineGames\Wolfenstein The New Order\base

Since the game did not start you can delete everything in the above folder.

Oh and right click and run as admin if you haven't tried that already and have UAC active. Smile
(Also add a exception for the AV program and such if required though it should prompt if it blocked the exe.)

Yup, checking in nvidia inspector I saw the same thing. Oddly enough when switching the GPU count to two and setting AFR, the game did show usage on both cards, but FPS went from around 60 down to 25ish. Strange....

I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

seems like codec issue according to log

integrated intel gfx instead of dedicated nvidia one for some reson even if I force and maybe because log only shows it through Nvidia control panel

On a GTX 670 the game runs flawlessly on the highest settings ( no customizing ) at 1440p with a i5-2500k. It helps a lot if you run the game on fullscreen mode as opposed to windowed/fullwindow.

So far I am really impressed at what MachineGames has created, so far I've rendezvoused with the resistance, from what I've percieved the game gives you actual alternatives in how you tackle on an area, and even gives you the option to completely bypass it if you figure out a 'puzzle'. So far it's a breath of fresh air in the FPS genre. It's too bad that there's no multiplayer, but you cannot have it all, I suppose.
