I did originally hope that mods would fix this game but it seems that its so broken down to the core that mods are just scratching the surface of whats broken. If some real SDK was released modders could probably make quite a difference but I don't see that happening any time soon.

The game could have been so great but fell so very very far from what was hoped Sad

The world doesn't need more garbage, we're up to our private cracks in indy games, kickstarters and console ports. We don't need this shit, Egosoft. We don't need it. We're suffocating the joy and positive associations we have towards gaming. Don't you have any professional pride left?

In the future game developers responsible for software releases like this game will be crammed into tiny capsules and fired out into unknown space through a huge solar powered cannon where they'll be some alien race's problem and not ours.

The space cannon will have single, burst, and auto firing modes by the way and each magazine of developer pods will hold 30 pods. Ammunition will be gathered from all over the world, and the general idea is that we will refine video gaming, re-establish it as an art form, re-build it as a cultural pillar, and make developers think thrice before releasing anything at all, especially unfinished games like X Rebirth.

Yes it was a 32 bit exe, but requires a 64 bit version of windows to run as I recall.
It wouldn't run on my Win 8 32 bit version.

Or did they patch that requirement out JBeckman?

Interesting I didn't know about that and it's strange if it required a x64 OS while the game itself was only 32-bit, how odd unless it was a bug and one of the patches solved it though I don't remember anything like that from the change logs.

I am quite in the same boat than the OP, I played some hours at launch and put the "game" aside.

I think this next "big" update coming this month will be my second and last try before I put this joke in my "trash" library category.

Imagine all the cash Egosoft raked in on this based on everyone thinking it was "X4" essentially.

It is a pretty dark thing to do. Of course they knew the status of their own game. They'd been sitting on it for years wondering what to do with it.

• New Feature: Autopilot can fly your ship while you are busy.

A brand new feature for a space sim! Auto pilot. You know. It pilots your ship. Automatically. Like a pilot. But not really. The future is now.

• New Feature: Most tasks can now be performed without landing on stations.

This is actually -huge- for this game in the state it is in. Having to land, walk through uninspired copy/pasted stations to search for a generic, fugly NPC got old really fast. The entirety of this game is a class example of poor game design and project planning. Considering they worked on this game for 7 years, supposedly, it makes Egosoft seem completely inept.

"Is this fun?"
"Does this feel meaningful and engaging?"
"Does this make sense to the player?"
"Is poor voice acting better than not having voice acting at all?"
"Does this fit with the technology/setting of the game's universe?"
"Is the universe big and varied enough in order to make players wish to explore it?"
"Can we possibly make certain actions more streamlined, less tedious and more user friendly for the player?"
"Did we test this game thoroughly to avoid causing major problems for players on release day?"
"Would we as developers and as gamers enjoy playing this game?"

This is just a couple of questions I came up with in about 10 seconds that couldn't possibly have been voiced even once at Egosoft.

I'd absolutely love to see internationally ratified online consumer protection laws against full-priced video game releases such as this one.

Egosoft did nothing to warn their own long-time fans and followers of the state of X Rebirth. Quite the opposite in fact, they kept feeding the publics' illusion that X Rebirth was essentially X4 and with the complexity and openness of previous X games.

It would be easy, within a day, for a task-force to build a case and completely destroy a company lying in pre-release interviews, faking trailers and gameplay footage etc. You could get shut down for good essentially.

Some companies get off on selling unfinished games to millions of players. It is a growing trend. Early Access is a gateway to this same practice, although of course, fooling players into buying a full-priced game on Steam, making them think it is a complete and tested product, is far worse.

Priority items. Totally.

They have a long way to go if they want to build this into an actual video game with patches of this size and impact.

It it just a show for the gallery now. They need to show that they're doing -something-.

The only companies that would readily succumb to this would be smaller ones such as Egosoft, perhaps Bohemia.

Meanwhile, the real guilty big hitters such as EA would simply stall the case in court indefinitely while throwing endless funds at their legal teams.

I do agree with you though, it'd definitely be sweet to see these lying, conniving, shit-heeled fucks held accountable for once - doubt it'll ever happen though.

They're calling this 2.0? Man... 7 years of development time and counting... Shameful. Performance is still poor. Cap ship exploits are still in the game. UI is still god awful. Etc. It doesn't justify a 2.0 designation.

Lots of good improvement in this, they just need to continue this until maybe 3.5. But IMO, no amount of improvement is going to satisfy most that were jaded by the initial release.
