Think - Super Metroid meets Monkey Island - The Fall is a unique blend of action platforming and traditional adventure gaming, with a strong story, and an emphasis on exploration, and mystery.
The Fall is:
A unique story
The Fall is a cinematic platformer where you play the role of ARID, a virtual intelligence onboard an armored combat suit. ARID is activated when the suits human pilot is injured and rendered unconscious; It must take control of the suit and move the pilots unconscious body towards help.
The Fall borrows its story from classic sci-fi. ARID must help its pilot while still being constrained by its governing laws of robotics. Unfortunately, it is soon placed in situations where these rules prevent it from taking action; ARID must struggle with its own set of rules and self understanding if it's going to save the life of its human friend.
Combat test:
In short, looks like The Swapper but shooter-platformer rather than puzzle-platformer.
Successfully Kickstarted 2D sci-fi adventure The Fall is launching on 30th May for PC, Mac and Linux via Steam.
The non-linear game stars a sentient space suit who's in charge of protecting its unconscious bearer. Your directive is to protect the person housed within you, but like all the best AI's, you'll question your purpose and origin. On a more immediate level, you'll question you to survive as The Fall contains a mix of combat, environmental puzzles and exploration. Warner described it as a mix of Super Metroid and Monkey Island, at least in terms of its gameplay, while its spooky space station aesthetic is more akin to something like The Swapper or Limbo.
The Fall is going to be a three-part episodic series and this initial episode is expected to last in the neighborhood of three hours. This debut chapter will cost £5.99 / €6.99 / $9.99.
Over the Moon sent us word about their new sci-fi action adventure game, The Fall and I'll tell you now this game is pretty impressive! The Fall is set in a dark, distant sci-fi universe with the story revolving around the combat suit ARID and the unconscious pilot within the suit itself.
Did that game ever come out in English or ever get a decent English patch? I remember following it when it first ever got released but then eventually completely forgot about it.
We haven’t been spending all of this time just upping the game’s fidelity, of course. The Fall Part 2: Unbound is richer and deeper in many different ways; we’ve got a truly bizarre journey planned for ARID this time around. After the unhinging events of part 1, ARID’s very existence is threatened when she is ejected from her body and projected onto a vast global network.
In a desperate attempt to save herself, ARID invades and attempts to control several other robots she finds there, each with different personalities and gameplay styles. Will ARID successfully enlist their help before it’s too late? One thing’s for certain — the process will change her.
Gameplay-wise, we’re checking in with our metroidvania roots. The world of The Fall Part 2: Unbound is larger and more varied — one of the main project goals was to offer players fun perspectives that they haven’t exactly had in a game before. To that end, each character from The Fall Part 2: Unbound has a different gameplay style and story. Players will have to deal with each characters strengths and limitations. Some will focus more on combat, and some will focus on interpersonal skills. It’s our hope that by offering players an eclectic mix of behaviors, we can pave the way for some interesting ideas in our story.
