Ed Boon, co-creator of the Mortal Kombat series, confirmed on Twitter that the next game will be called Mortal Kombat X. An announcement trailer says it will launch in 2015.
Boon had been teasing an announcement for a week; this confirms earlier rumors of the game, including a retailer listing over the weekend that used the same title.
NetherRealm Studios, maker of the 2011 series reboot, is the developing studio.
The game will combine "unparalleled, cinematic presentation with dynamic gameplay," according to the trailer description.

Given the fact the game will be cross-generational, it seems likely that the below trailer isn't made from gameplay footage, but so far both WB and NetherRealm have remained mum on exactly what it shows off. Damn I always envy people who can play this (and Injustice)! I can never remember more than 2-3 combinations and for 1-2 chars only and thus suck big time even vs AI. I know it's a matter of some mechanical memory, just repeat 100 times but never had that much time even back at school with MK1-2. I'd rather waste it on Monkey Island and LBA.
