It's standard UE3 without anything too crazy added other than HDAO, no tessellation or parallax occlusion mapping either from what I can tell.
(Character models even for the main characters are also fairly low detail and textures are somewhat blurry so unless optimization was a complete failure somehow I don't see the game being that demanding.)

EDIT: Not sure why it needs 64-bit really, nice to know it can be backwards compatible with D3D9 also.

EDIT: Heh just found this, wonder if this piece of art means anything.

you might not be running it on max settings actually, since the game uses DX11 for some effects, like shaders. and the HD4850 is only DX10.1

That's true, but it would be awesome if more developers would opt for giving a choice between sacrificing a few features in favor of great performance.

Played for a couple of hours.

The game is interesting, if nothing else for the plot and unusual game mechanics (first game you can play with "NoClip" enabled even without using cheats Laughing ).

However, there isn't much in there on the gameplay side. It's pretty much just walk around rooms and press X when the prompt appears. You can't even interact with the world around you (for obvious reasons) so the clue-hunting is limited to looking at the right spot. The possession mechanic is nice, but other than that there isn't much else noteworthy. And the "demon hunting" portions are clearly put there just to give the impression that there is something else to do other than walking around.

All in all, I think I'll finish it, 'cos I want to know how the story goes, but I hope it isn't too long, because from the first couple of hours it feels like it could get repetitive very quickly.

^^ Yeah, there's very little in the way of traditional "gameplay", hence the comparison to Heavy Rain/BEYOND. They're more like interactive movies with a smattering of gameplay.

One thing I don't like and I can see getting even more tiresome and irritating as the game progresses and the cases get more complex, is the "shields" stuff. Being rated on how well you do the investigation is all well and good for Cole Phelps, but you're a goddamn GHOST. What possible use do ratings have? It's worse when you're supposed to select the most relevant clue out of a list of 7-8, all of which are relevant but apparently only one is the *most* relevant ... and if you get it wrong; "Sorry, you're too stupid.. here, have this shitty rating just to rub it in your face that you're too stupid"

Thanks for the impressions guys, I can say now with all certainty that the game, even if appealing because of the setting and story, isn't definitely worth a buy (at least not at those prices, ROW or RU). It might be worth the download of the iso demo though, but that will be delayed indefinitely for now Razz

It could just be the way I interpreted it, but when you press "Y" to solve the case and it asks for the relevant clues;

this is what i didnt like about la noire, it was too easy and the game always wanted you to choose the captain obvious option even if you were several steps ahead already.
the phoenix wright games did it better imo, sure at times it was weird and the game made you guess, but mostly they did expect the player to think several steps further and come to a conclusion, atleast in later cases of each game.

nevertheless, i am so hungry for a game like this right now, i will eat this up right away Smile

I can't see that particular image (It reports as being 1x1 pixels.) but judging by the name I think I know already, yeah you can possess lesser entities with a bit more control, or rather you can control cats to reach areas where you as a ghost would not be able to get to.
(It's pretty simplistic but it works, run to automatically jump to reachable ledges and meow to, well I don't know why that would be useful.)

EDIT: Now it works. Smile

Can someone who completed the first investigation in the apartments please write down locations of boilers if you remember them? I'm missing one, and I wish I could tell you which ones I collected but I'm too tired. Sad

"I think Call of Duty resonates because it's believable and relatable," Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey says.

Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

I don't remember exactly where all of them were (Each area seems to have something like that by the way, I'm missing a few here and there though I found all these.) but you can always return later to collect any missed items, I have not tried this yet however so I do not know if the various hostile entities also respawn.
(I know however that if you get consumed they do respawn though it saves every collected item so you don't have to backtrack.)

Finished it.

Yes the main story is quite short, but i seriously don't get the reviews.

The actual story is freaking good in my opinion.
I will not spil anything, but the ending... damn, I didn't see that one comming.

NOT talking about the obvious part, but talking about the whole ending, in general.

WoW, seriously, I had a blast playing it, and those side missions, and those collectibles which tell a little story about salem or someone in salem, were really good.

For me this game was a 8/10.

Story 9/10
Graphics 8/10
Sound 8/10
Investigations 7/10 ( some where really to boring and obvious )

And just a small spoiler Razz

Almost ALL off the cops are playing Deus Ex: HR at their work pc Razz
