No, it means you'll fall into the same schedule after a couple of weeks of free time. Since funds aren't unlimited you can't dick around indefinitely, which doesn't leave a lot of options after some time. If you have less free time, the free time you have is more precious.

IMOIMOIMO.

Yeah, but the goal of human progress is to have as much free time as possible. We automate tasks, so we can indulge in hedonistic behavior.

I would never be bored jobless. one activity can always be replaced by another.

And in today's world, it is doable on a much larger scale then we have at this point. Too bad we stick to old fashioned notions of amount of x work = amount of y pay.

This is gonna work less and less the more automated tasks are. We already see it with the huge difference in world wealth distribution.

I'm sorry to hear that the lot of you hate the idea of it, but seriously fuck off. go to uni for something you like and do that and contribute to society and whatnot. there are A LOT of opportunities to show your ideas for being innovative, even in broken ass situations like public service Wink

Have worked for a govt department, by the far the most rewarding job I have ever had. Its nice working for the state instead of lining the pocket of some rich fuck... also I dunno how public servants are paid in other countries, but down here you get paid very decent $$$ + a huge number of benefits.

Currently work for a small well established (20 years) IT company as a Engineer, LOVE the people.. however the boss is becoming a ass... time keeping can lick my fucking balls.

I also got offered another job today, so could take that.. its in the Education Sector.. would be in charge of the IT needs of a organization with around 200 users.

So yeah.....

IMHO the best jobs are the ones where you don't have to take anything home with you at the end of the day. Eg "Fuck I need to do this for this client on Monday" ...

There are many way people relate to their jobs. I for one loved all my jobs - mostly been a freelancer and company owner all my life. Started out with 0, and after many years of 12+hour work days I now am nicely within the 1% (income wise, not wealth wise, I reinvest the money back in to the company).

I cut back on the work hours since I can employ more people, so I'm at around 10 hr/day currently.

I hire only people, who are motivated by the work they do, I can't stand to work with people, who only work for the money (which is quite good as well - but not great).

To be honest, I'm kind of the opposite of many people, I can't understand or respect those, who would use all their time in a hedonistic way. The way I see it, those who don't work out of their own choice, are not contributing to society, and as such should not receive anything from society either.

You give, you get. Simple as that. You a lazy mofo, you can fuck right off. Imho.

I have no issues working 8 hours a day.

I do, however, have issues with the following:

- Working your ass off only to be treated the same as those next to you that are not really into it.
- Seemingly needing to kiss the boss's ass in order to get some recognition and slightly better secured place at the company.
- No feedback whatsoever from some vague "client was happy the past month/year" that rarely appears out of nowhere.
- Poor quality hardware (those shit heaps have 2GB of RAM FFS... with 4GB machines that are not working for ~2 months now sitting back next to them).
- Bosses have no idea of the scope, length and complexity of the tasks they manage. Also, good luck talking to them to make them understand.
- Complete disregard for the more skilled and experienced elements on the team. Giving them a slight raise to keep them, or hell, even some motivation? Nah, just hire some more new guys and have the remaining overworked staff teaching them the basics.

So now I'm just cruise-controlling around the place. Why bother giving my best when these people really don't care about what they do/manage.
Fuck them.

Man, not sure I could handle only working weekends. Usually when I'm unemployed I enjoy the first week not having to work and just being a total slob before I start to lose my shit.

I'm glad that my company's more reasonable. We had (still have to be honest) normal PCs with 1st gen i5 (750), 8GB of RAM and Nvidia Quadro something. Slightly more than half a year ago a bigger company took us over and replaced the PCs with laptops with dockstations. i7-3740, Quadro K1000M + integrated and....32 GB of RAM. Never seen that much in a laptop. The only problem is that most of us used to work on Linux (developers) and laptops came with Windows and the new company's network is configured in a kinda Windows-only way. Or at least that's the explanation our internal support gave us, but their trying to make everything work on Linux so we could ditch the workstations entirely.

And more on topic - yeah, working 40h/week is not such a big problem as long as you enjoy what you do and feel adequately rewarded for it. The only demotivating thing is that I know other people from the same company earn more-or-less the same...but in 3-4 times stronger currency so their buying capabilities are quite bigger

If you ever start to think about economy in general, then you realize soon that somethings wrong with it. 90% of all the money go to 1%. The rest works daily to pay their rent, and buy something luxury here and then. Most of us are just slaves for a few, but dont realize it.

There are democratic companys out there, where, for example, a bred beaker gets 15.000$ proportionately a month. But thats the exception, unfortunately...

This is one of the main reasons, im self educated. Not because i want it all for myself, but i just dont want to be a part of this greedy system.

I used to regularly work 12+ hours, sometimes even 16 a day. Not healthy, but I had the ambition of making my own company. In this region of the world it costs a fucking lot to hire someone, so I did as much of the work myself as possible, in order to be able to afford more programmers and artists. So I did a lot of administrative and sales work aside from leading projects, until I could safely afford to hire more people and cut back on my work hours.

Now I work around 10 hours a day, because no matter how safely you plan, when you are in a leadership position, a lot of stuff can come up, and requre swift action and decision-making.

what however isn't the best idea, is to work 42 hours during the week, then another 7 hours friday night, then party from saturday to sunday and then go work again 6 hours during the night.

Long story short, i was sick tuesday (having barely slept and all that lol). + Plus wanting to sleep during the day at 35°+ in the room .. not gonna happen lol.
